PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Wertudo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Poddubny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ivan Poddubny told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fabio Wertudo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivan Poddubny!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wertudo tries to clinch but Poddubny is having none of it.

Poddubny shoots in and bounces Wertudo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Wertudo pulls Poddubny in to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Poddubny is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wertudo seems keen to control Poddubny's posture.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Wertudo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wertudo tries to pull guard but Poddubny holds him up against the cage and eventually Wertudo drops back down to his feet.
Wertudo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Poddubny smiles and moves away.
Wertudo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Poddubny shoots for a double leg takedown but Wertudo sprawls well. He's pushed Poddubny's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Poddubny takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Poddubny avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Poddubny circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wertudo tries to clinch up but Poddubny circles away and keeps his distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wertudo swings for the body but Poddubny moves out of range.
A big left from Wertudo misses.
Wertudo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Poddubny walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Poddubny tries to keep at a distance but Wertudo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Poddubny presses Wertudo against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Poddubny has hold of one of Wertudo's legs. Wertudo is fighting the takedown attempt but Poddubny gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Poddubny is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Ivan Poddubny showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Wertudo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The fight stays on the outside here - Wertudo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Poddubny shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wertudo is trying to defend but Poddubny finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wertudo is pressing down on Poddubny's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Wertudo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wertudo is trying to control the position but Poddubny postures up.
Ivan Poddubny is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Poddubny content to stall in guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ivan Poddubny comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Poddubny winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
