PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Phirintan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Allenn Iverson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iverson has chosen NOT AFRAID as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jerry Phirintan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Allenn Iverson!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Phirintan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Phirintan swings around for an armbar but Iverson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Phirintan's guard.
Phirintan pulls Iverson in to control the position.
Phirintan keeping moving, preventing Iverson from controlling successfully.
Iverson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Iverson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Phirintan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Phirintan is trying to control the position but Iverson postures up.

Phirintan has his foot on Iverson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Iverson works his way back into a safe position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Phirintan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Iverson is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Phirintan is looking for a triangle here but Iverson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Phirintan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Phirintan fails to land the takedown.
Iverson slaps away a takedown attempt from Phirintan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Phirintan shoots in for a takedown but Iverson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerry Phirintan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Iverson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Phirintan.
Phirintan shoots in looking for a takedown. Iverson tries to sprawl out of it but Phirintan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Iverson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phirintan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Iverson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Phirintan has Iverson in his guard.
Iverson wants to control from the top but Phirintan keeps moving.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Iverson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Iverson trying to control but Phirintan is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Phirintan looking for subs off his back but Iverson has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerry Phirintan dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Phirintan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Iverson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Phirintan!
Iverson tries to control but Phirintan wriggling away.
Phirintan tries to lock up and control but Iverson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Iverson wants to take Phirintan's back here but Phirintan is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Phirintan is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Iverson looking to control but Phirintan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Iverson avoids the attempt from Phirintan to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Phirintan is working to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Iverson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Allenn Iverson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Phirintan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
