PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xander Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evan Pike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cage kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Feuer Frei!. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Xander Cage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Evan Pike!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pike throws a lazy right hand but Cage sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cage takes a swing at Pike's ribcage but misses.
Cage throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Evan Pike seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pike keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Cage shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Pike napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Pike is trying to get back to his feet.
Pike is looking for a sweep.
Pike wants to get back to his feet but Cage drags him back down.
Pike on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Cage decides to stand back up.
Cage swings for the body but Pike moves out of range.
The crowd cheers as Pike lands an impressive looking overhand right. Cage doesn't seem phased though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pike lands a nice looking body shot.
Pike lands a slapping body shot.
Cage is breathing heavily.

Pike moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! Cage goes down! Can Pike finish him!?

It looks like Xander Cage has been cut.
Pike's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pike wants to stand but Cage is controlling his posture from full guard.
Pike controls from within his opponent's guard.
Cage working a defensive guard but Pike passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pike is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cage!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Pike trying to control but Cage is having none of it.
Pike takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Cage is squirming around, avoiding Pike's attempts to control the action.

Despite being in the dominant position, Evan Pike just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cage gets a clinch.
Cage is trying to maintain a safe position but Pike gets an underhook and turns Cage into the cage.
Cage is trying to drag Pike to the mat but Pike just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Pike is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cage gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pike wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Cage breaks the clinch.
Pike will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pike fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cage manages to avoid it.
Pike pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pike misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Pike throws a right and a left that Cage avoids nicely.
Cage displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Pike rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cage moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cage tries to bum rush Pike with a series of wild strikes but Pike uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Cage shoots in and bounces Pike off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Pike wants to get back to his feet but Cage is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cage wanted to stand there but Pike had control of the position.
Cage is looking to work some ground and pound but Pike has wrist control.
Pike is looking to stand up but Cage isn't so interested in that idea.
Cage throws a big right hand that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cage looking to pass the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Evan Pike dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Xander Cage's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Pike throws a shot to the body.
Pike scores with a jab to the jaw.
Some wild striking there from Pike.
Pike swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Cage counters with an outside leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cage swings for the body but Pike moves out of range.
Nice defenses there by Cage.
A head kick misses from Pike.
Cage throws a series of strikes that have Pike backpedaling.
Cage walks into a straight right hand from Pike.

Cage is rocked!
Pike ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Cage's jaw. Cage's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Pike does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
