Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marko Ceraj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bas Rutten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marko Ceraj!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ceraj moves out of range of the body kick from Rutten.
Rutten scores with a head kick.


It looks like Marko Ceraj has been cut.
Rutten looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ceraj is fending him off so far but Rutten persists. Nope, Ceraj circles away and we're back to standing.
Bas Rutten seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ceraj misses with a head kick.

Ceraj shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Rutten is trying to stand up here but Ceraj is controlling him well.

Ceraj is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Rutten sees it coming and defends easily.

Ceraj is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ceraj is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rutten is just riding it out for now. Ceraj eventually gives up the hold.
Rutten tries to get to full guard but Ceraj has control of the leg.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ceraj is working for a submission of some sort.
Rutten keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ceraj trying to control the action but Rutten is working from the bottom.

Ceraj seems to be working for a kimura but Rutten defends the submission attempt.

Rutten looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Rutten tries to close the distance and clinch but Ceraj swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rutten misses with a low kick.
Ceraj wants to clinch

and Rutten counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ceraj!
Ceraj bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Ceraj drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rutten manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ceraj has Rutten in his guard.

Rutten postures up.
Ceraj is pulling down on Rutten's head. It's preventing any offense from Rutten, at least for the moment.
Rutten trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ceraj's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ceraj throws a solid leg kick but Rutten takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ceraj.

Ceraj is pressing down on Rutten's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rutten is holding on for now.
Rutten is concentrating on defense, preventing Ceraj from advancing position.
Rutten is staying active underneath Ceraj, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Ceraj is nestled in close to Rutten, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Rutten avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ceraj.

Ceraj is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Rutten!

Ceraj moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Rutten has worked his arm free - good work by Rutten!

Ceraj is breathing heavily.
Rutten lands a jab.
Ceraj closes the distance looking to clinch

and Rutten counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ceraj!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Ceraj working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Ceraj is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ceraj regains half guard.
Rutten throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rutten thows a huge punch but Ceraj dodges it nicely.
Ceraj wants to improve his position but Rutten is controlling well.

Ceraj is staying active underneath Rutten, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rutten passes into side control, despite Ceraj's attempt to control the position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rutten looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rutten clinches but Ceraj breaks the clinch
and Ceraj counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Rutten is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Ceraj drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ceraj is trying to get an arm triangle but Rutten is defending well.

A close second round but Marko Ceraj will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Ceraj lands with a kick to the temple. Rutten shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
No luck for Ceraj with that takedown attempt.

Rutten darts in and clinches Ceraj up against the ropes.
Ceraj fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Ceraj gets control of Rutten's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ceraj will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rutten wants to control from the top but Ceraj keeps moving.
Ceraj is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ceraj wants to sweep here but Rutten controlling him for the moment.
Ceraj takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rutten trying to control but Ceraj is working from the bottom.
Rutten has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rutten pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ceraj is keeping the position for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rutten throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

and Rutten counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Rutten.
Bas Rutten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marko Ceraj.
Ceraj is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Rutten gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Rutten wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ceraj has him pressed against the ropes.

Ceraj is working for takedown but Rutten is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rutten tries to score a body lock takedown but Ceraj shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Ceraj throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rutten was covering up waiting for the punch and Ceraj finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ceraj is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ceraj trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Rutten manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Rutten postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ceraj is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rutten, into his guard.
Marko Ceraj has got the better of the ground game so far.

I would just about give that final round to Marko Ceraj.
I think Ceraj has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
