PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Peter The Wraith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The Wraith comes to the cage accompanied by Insane Clown Posse - Suicide Hotline. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter The Wraith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Burton!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Wraith misses with a takedown attempt - Burton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Burton swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Burton tries for a takedown but The Wraith circles away easily

and The Wraith counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burton won't be happy with that.

The Wraith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Burton is looking for a sweep.

The Wraith swings around for an armbar but Burton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into The Wraith's guard.
Burton wants to get up but he can't break The Wraith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The Wraith pulls Burton in close to prevent any damage.

The Wraith has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Burton off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Burton darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Burton closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Burton lands in his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Wraith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Burton controls the pace.
The Wraith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Burton!
Burton wants to try and get back to his feet.
Burton really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The Wraith moves to the back position.
I really don't envy Burton right now.
The Wraith struggling to keep hold of the position.
The Wraith is breathing heavily.
Burton breaks The Wraith's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The Wraith is trying to keep Burton in close.
Burton wants to stand but The Wraith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Burton being controlled here momentarily.
Burton pushes down on The Wraith's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Burton prevents The Wraith from improving his position.
The Wraith trying to control here.
The Wraith wants to improve his position but Burton is controlling well.
Burton takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The Wraith is looking to control Burton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can The Wraith avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burton trying to pass the guard but The Wraith defending well.
Burton performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Burton prevents The Wraith from improving his position.
The Wraith could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Burton tries to clinch up.
Burton throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter The Wraith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The Wraith prevents Burton from breaking the clinch.

The Wraith pulls Burton into guard.
The Wraith trying to keep a closed guard but Burton is proving a slippery customer.
Burton tries to free his leg and advance position but The Wraith is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The Wraith has his foot on Burton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burton works his way back into a safe position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The Wraith is looking to stand up but Burton isn't so interested in that idea.
Burton with a flurry of punches that miss.
Burton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. The Wraith is keeping the position for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The Wraith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burton as he jumps to the side.
Burton closes the distance looking to clinch

and The Wraith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Burton looking to control.
Burton looking for a sweep. Not yet Burton, not yet.
Burton being controlled here, momentarily.
Burton wants to stand up but The Wraith is controlling him.
The Wraith controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter The Wraith dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The Wraith tries for a takedown but Burton circles away easily
and Burton counters with a left and a right that stings The Wraith.

and The Wraith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The Wraith is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Peter The Wraith overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The Wraith trying to control the position from guard on top but Burton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The Wraith showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Burton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The Wraith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burton lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for The Wraith!

Burton wants to control the pace but The Wraith is squirming around nicely.

The Wraith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Oh The Wraith is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Burton looking to isolate an arm here. The Wraith doesn't see it coming and as Burton extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Burton!
