PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Murder Face (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cleyton Maldozzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maldozzi is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Erick Sermon Feat. Redman - React . Cleyton Maldozzi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Murder Face!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cleyton Maldozzi!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maldozzi misses with the combination.
Maldozzi looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Face has Maldozzi up against the cage in a clinch.

Face escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Face shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Face tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Face working for a guillotine from mount but Maldozzi is in no mood to give up.
Face controlling the position easily from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Face looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Face will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Face sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Face tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Maldozzi is trying to reverse the position but instead Face has taken his back - oops!
Maldozzi wants to control his opponent's hands but Face gets his hands free.
Face controlling the position well here. Maldozzi rolled but Face kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Maldozzi covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Face keeps control of the position easily here as Maldozzi tries to buck him off.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Murder Face just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Face misses with an attempted mid kick.

Maldozzi moves out of range of the body kick from Face.

Face shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maldozzi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Face postures up in Maldozzi's guard and throws a big left but Maldozzi blocks it.
Face sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Face working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Maldozzi's head.

Face stands up and waves to Maldozzi to follow him.

Face shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Maldozzi's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Face gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Face drives through with a takedown into guard.
Face pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Maldozzi is keeping the position for now.
Face is pushing down on Maldozzi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Maldozzi is fighting to maintain full guard but Face has managed to sneak the leg through.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Face working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Face lands strikes from half guard.
Face looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Face has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murder Face dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Face shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maldozzi sprawls well. Maldozzi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Face gets slowly back to his feet.

Face gets the takedown into side control.
Face has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Face controlling the position easily from mount.
Face punishing his opponent with strikes.
Maldozzi is breathing heavily.
Face looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Face lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Face landing strikes from the mount and Maldozzi is in trouble!
Face lands a nice shot to the head.
Face controlling from the full mount.
Murder Face overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Face seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Maldozzi for as long as he can get away with.

Face lands with some strikes.
Face tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Murder Face just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Face fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Face looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Face controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Face accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Face working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Face stands and throws Maldozzi's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Face decides to stand up, so the ref orders Maldozzi to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Face shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Face showed some decent athleticism there.
Face slows the pace down in half guard.
Maldozzi tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Face manages to move to mount!
Maldozzi is bucking up trying to escape but Face cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Face wants to finish this one by submission but Maldozzi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murder Face dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No joy there for Face, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Face pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Maldozzi swinging wildly here.

Face changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maldozzi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Face throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Maldozzi is looking for a sweep.
Maldozzi is working to avoid the ground and pound but Face connects with a decent elbow.
Maldozzi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Maldozzi pushes Face away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Face gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Maldozzi parries the strikes from Face easily there. Face is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Maldozzi to escape.

Maldozzi takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Maldozzi is trying to escape the position but Face is controlling the position.
Murder Face is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Murder Face just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Face gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Maldozzi working hard to break the clinch.

Face gets control of Maldozzi's arms and successfully pulls guard. Face will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Face looking for a sweep. Not yet Face, not yet.
Face is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Face kicks Maldozzi off and gets to his feet.

Face shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Face content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Face moves nicely into side control.
Face controls the position.

Face stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Face.
Face is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Maldozzi will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Cleyton Maldozzi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Murder Face showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Face, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
