PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Roxas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Convex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roxas comes to the cage accompanied by What it takes to win. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gabriel Roxas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Barry Convex!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Convex misses.
Roxas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Convex misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Convex lands with a nice combination. Roxas backs away looking to recover.
Roxas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Roxas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Convex takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roxas working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Roxas tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Roxas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Convex is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Convex is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Roxas's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Convex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roxas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Roxas thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Convex to regain full guard.
Roxas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Convex swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Roxas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Convex defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Roxas.

Roxas blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Roxas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Roxas with the ground and pound but Convex uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Roxas is pushing down on Convex's leg trying to pass to half guard. Convex is fighting to maintain full guard but Roxas has managed to sneak the leg through.

Roxas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Convex's head.
Convex is trying to stand.

Roxas is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Convex pushes Roxas off looking to stand but Roxas dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gabriel Roxas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Roxas shoots in looking for a takedown. Convex tries to sprawl out of it but Roxas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Convex manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Convex misses with a few strikes there.
Roxas fails to land the takedown.
Roxas dives in and grabs Convex's left leg, looking for a takedown. Convex pushes down on Roxas's head and hops out.

Convex closes the distance and pushes Roxas back into the cage.
Convex landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
The referee is keeping an eye on Convex - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Roxas can't get the takedown.
Convex is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Roxas is defending well for now.

Convex breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Convex should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Roxas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Convex pinned against the cage. Convex gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Roxas closes the distance and clinches up with Convex, looking for a takedown. Roxas pushes Convex against the cage but Convex circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gabriel Roxas will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Roxas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Roxas has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Convex's face.
Convex is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Roxas avoids the attempt from Convex to control.

Roxas moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Convex has worked his arm free - good work by Convex!

Convex is working to avoid the ground and pound but Roxas connects with a decent elbow.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Convex can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Roxas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
