PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Naoki Fujii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ric Tiger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tiger is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Eye of the tiger. Naoki Fujii has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Naoki Fujii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ric Tiger!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tiger avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tiger stuffs the takedown.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fujii.
Tiger tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Fujii is able to avoid easily.
Fujii looks for a takedown but Tiger sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Naoki Fujii. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tiger has his takedown stuffed

and Fujii counters by moving into the clinch.
Fujii tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tiger just stands there and leans against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tiger loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fujii manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tiger manages to get himself to full guard.

Fujii drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fujii jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fujii controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Fujii wants to pass the guard but Tiger is keeping the position.
Fujii prevents Tiger from getting back to his feet.
Tiger is wriggling around but Fujii manages to pass to half guard.

Tiger pushes Fujii off and gets back to his feet.

Tiger has closed the distance and engaged Fujii in a clinch.
Tiger is working for takedown but Fujii is calmly controlling the position for now.

and Tiger counters with a nice leg kick.

Fujii shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tiger is trying to defend but Fujii finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Fujii lands with a punch from half guard.
Tiger trying to control here.
Tiger tries to kick Fujii off but Fujii keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tiger wants to improve his position but Fujii is controlling well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fujii is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tiger doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fujii.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fujii seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Tiger does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Tiger is trying to maintain the position but Fujii is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tiger throws a low kick but Fujii avoids it.
Fujii shoots for a takedown but Tiger saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Fujii shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tiger's guard.

Tiger pushes Fujii off and scrambles back to his feet.
Tiger throws a leg kick which misses Fujii's front leg but catches the back leg as Fujii tries to avoid it.
Tiger tries to clinch up but Fujii circles away and keeps his distance.

and Fujii counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tiger's guard now.

Fujii postures up.
Fujii advances position into side control!
Tiger is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Tiger looks gassed!
Fujii landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Fujii advances to full mount.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Tiger tries to hold on but Fujii pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fujii scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fujii shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tiger is trying to keep Fujii in close.
Fujii sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tiger's guard.
Tiger wants to get back to his feet.
Fujii wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tiger keeps working.

Fujii is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Fujii is working for a submission of some sort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tiger wants to get back to full guard.

Tiger is in trouble now - Fujii has advanced to mount!
Tiger is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Tiger somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Fujii is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tiger can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Fujii swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Tiger is now in Fujii's guard. A big mistake from Fujii there, giving up the dominant position!
Tiger is looking to stand up but Fujii won't let him.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tiger accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fujii has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fujii has control of Tiger's left arm, preventing Tiger from doing any damage.
Fujii looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tiger is one step ahead there.

Fujii has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tiger can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Tiger tries to stand but Fujii is controlling from the bottom.
Fujii wants to sweep here but Tiger controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Nice takedown defense from Tiger. No joy for Fujii on that attempt.

Fujii looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tiger is fending him off so far but Fujii persists. Nope, Tiger circles away and we're back to standing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fujii is nestled in close to Tiger, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Fujii is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Tiger pushes Fujii off looking to stand but Fujii dives back in and keeps control.

Fujii tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fujii has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Fujii is looking to take a break and control but Tiger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tiger is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fujii's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Naoki Fujii overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tiger makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tiger.

Fujii trying to control the position from guard on top but Tiger is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tiger is looking to stand up but Fujii isn't so interested in that idea.
Fujii seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tiger is looking to control Fujii's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Tiger avoid being mounted?
Tiger flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Naoki Fujii showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fujii, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
