Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marco Solano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Solano's entrance music is Eye of the tiger . A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Aldo!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from Aldo.
Aldo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Solano swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Aldo tries to clinch there but Solano circles away.
Solano throws a body kick that misses.
Aldo is looking to clinch.
Aldo is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Solano.
A solid leg kick lands there for Aldo.
Solano is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Solano swats away the attempt to clinch by Aldo.
Solano throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Solano takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Solano misses with an uppercut. Aldo saw that one coming.
Solano looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Aldo is fending him off so far but Solano persists. Nope, Aldo circles away and we're back to standing.

Solano really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Aldo is trying to stand.
Solano wants to control the pace but Aldo is squirming around nicely.
Aldo is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Solano is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Aldo has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Aldo!

Solano is looking for a triangle here but Aldo uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aldo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Solano stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The fight stays on the outside here - Aldo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Solano closes the distance and clinches.
Solano has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Aldo looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Solano prevents Aldo from breaking the clinch.

and Aldo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Marco Solano is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Solano wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Aldo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Solano counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Aldo clinches but Solano breaks the clinch
and Solano counters with a stiff right hand.
Jose Aldo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Aldo moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Solano throws a series of punches but Aldo avoids them all with ease.
Solano's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Solano duly obliges.
Aldo wants to clinch

and Solano counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Solano ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Solano no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Solano wants to sweep but no luck.
Solano lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Aldo!

Aldo is squirming around, avoiding Solano's attempts to control the action.

Solano goes for an armbar but Aldo turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Aldo.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Aldo wants to stand but Solano has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Solano throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Aldo escapes and throws Solano's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Solano is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Aldo wants to clinch

and Solano counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Solano.
Aldo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Solano trying to move into half guard but instead Aldo has managed to sweep!

Solano looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Aldo has picked Solano up and slammed him! Solano can't keep hold of the triangle and Aldo manages to pass to side control!

Aldo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Solano to his feet.

Solano fails with an attempt to clinch.
Solano circles away from the clinch attempt
and Solano counters with a left to the body.
Aldo darts in trying to clinch
and Aldo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Aldo thumps Solano with a low kick.
Solano takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Aldo walks into a stiff left hand from Solano.
Aldo lands a nice leg kick that just misses Solano's sensitive parts.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Solano moves out of range of the body kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Aldo.
Aldo scores with a push kick.
Solano throws a series of punches but Aldo moves out of range.
Solano will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The fight stays on the outside here - Solano looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Aldo wants to clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Solano is defended easily by Aldo.
Solano throws a nice looking combination but Aldo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Aldo keeps the fight on the outside.
Aldo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Aldo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Aldo cracks the inside of Solano's front leg.
Nice shot lands for Solano.

Aldo feints and then cracks Solano's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Solano down.
Jose Aldo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aldo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Solano.
Solano is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Aldo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Solano's calf.
Aldo lands with a thumping leg kick.

and Solano counters with a straight right hand.

Jose Aldo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Aldo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
