Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dimitri Morozov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sasa Gusi! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morozov clinches with his opponent.
Gusi has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Morozov uses from the top position. Morozov trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Morozov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gusi on the ground. Gusi preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Gusi working for a triangle but Morozov defends it easily.
Morozov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Morozov stands up and waves to Gusi to follow him. Morozov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Morozov lands in his opponent's guard. Morozov in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Gusi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Morozov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Morozov trying to control but Gusi is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gusi looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Gusi keeping full guard, as Morozov tries to pass. Gusi wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Excellent takedown into side control there by Gusi. Morozov tries to escape but Gusi is in control. Morozov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gusi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Gusi is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Morozov looks calm but he's in trouble here. Gusi gets his head over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Morozov is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Gusi lets go of the hold and Morozov can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sasa Gusi!
