PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Phoneix Jasons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Shockey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jasons's entrance music is devildriver - i could care less. A fine choice. Jim Shockey struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 187.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Phoneix Jasons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Shockey!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Wagner Zegers and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Jasons looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jasons avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shockey takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Shockey closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jasons counters by clinching up.

Jasons ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jasons no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shockey postures up.
Shockey is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jasons looking to control.

Jasons working for a triangle but Shockey defends it easily.
Shockey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jasons is keeping the position for now.

Jasons looking for a guillotine here but Shockey defends easily.
Shockey should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jasons wants to sweep here but Shockey controlling him for the moment.

Jasons uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Shockey throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Jim Shockey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shockey decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Shockey misses with a takedown attempt - Jasons sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Shockey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jasons's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shockey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jasons works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shockey lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Shockey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jasons has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shockey has managed to get both his arms back between Jasons's legs - danger averted.

Shockey decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shockey closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shockey lands in his opponent's guard.

Shockey has picked Jasons up - he's going for a ride! Shockey dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Shockey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jasons's head.

Shockey escapes and gets back to his feet.
Jasons lands a head kick!
Shockey lands a head kick. Jasons smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Shockey misses with a double jab
and Jasons counters with a two punch combo.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shockey shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jasons kicks off Shockey and gets to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Shockey dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shockey moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jasons misses with a takedown

and Shockey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shockey stands up and waves to Jasons to follow him.
Nice takedown defense from Shockey. No joy for Jasons on that attempt.

Shockey shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jasons manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

and Jasons makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Jasons throws a sloppy head kick and Shockey moves out of range easily.
Shockey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Jasons counters with a head kick. That will keep Shockey thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Shockey wants to clinch up but Jasons keeps it at a distance.

Jasons is looking to control Shockey's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jasons avoid being mounted?
Jasons is staying active underneath Shockey, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jim Shockey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jasons wants to get back to his feet but Shockey is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Shockey gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Jasons gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Shockey cracks Jasons with a solid left hand.

Shockey is in close to Jasons's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Shockey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shockey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Shockey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee warns Jasons that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
