Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steffen Meier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Anderson Travis! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Travis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Travis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Meier, who protects the arm well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Travis prevents Meier from escaping the position. Travis is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Meier will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. That's one minute gone in the round. Travis tries for a kimura but Meier is defending well. Travis stands up. The fight moves into the clinch position. Travis is trying to break free.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Travis is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Travis tries to circle away but Meier has him pinned against the cage. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Travis wants to break free but Meier has control.
Meier working Travis over with knees to the body. Travis stalling in the clinch but Meier improves position. Meier lands an elbow inside. Meier tries to pull guard but Travis holds him up against the cage and eventually Meier drops back down to his feet.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Travis as Meier tries to tie him up. Meier has hold of one of Travis's legs. Travis is fighting the takedown attempt but Meier gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Travis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Meier defends well. Meier is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Meier wanted to stand there but Travis had control of the position. Meier wants to stand and escape but instead Travis has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Travis won't allow Meier to get back to his feet. Travis stands and throws Meier's legs to the side, diving into side control. Travis works to advance to full mount. Meier defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Meier is trying to stand but he's just given Travis his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Travis is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Meier taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Travis.
