PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ron Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Severus Ignotus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ignotus is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Slam. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ron Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Severus Ignotus!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Ignotus with that takedown attempt.
Ignotus shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ignotus closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jones did well to prevent Ignotus getting side control.

Jones kicks off Ignotus and gets to his feet.

Jones scores a takedown into full mount!
Jones controlling from mount.
Ignotus is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jones cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Ignotus tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ignotus is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Ignotus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ignotus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ignotus can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ignotus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jones content just to control the position here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones avoids the attempt from Ignotus to control.
Jones lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ignotus hang on?
Ignotus wants to control but Jones is having none of it.
Jones controlling from mount.
Jones wants to control the pace but Ignotus is squirming around nicely.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ignotus is trying to escape the mount.
Jones sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ignotus is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jones wants to control the pace but Ignotus is squirming around nicely.
Jones is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ignotus tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ignotus is looking to escape.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ignotus misses with a takedown attempt

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Ignotus blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Jones is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ignotus gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Ignotus lands a body shot in the clinch.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Ignotus's takedown attempt.
Ron Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Severus Ignotus.
Ignotus drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jones pulls his leg out and moves away.

and Jones counters with a right hand to the body.

and Jones counters with a head kick. That will keep Ignotus thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Ignotus looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jones has picked Ignotus up and slammed him! Ignotus can't keep hold of the triangle and Jones manages to pass to side control!
A lull in the action here as Jones stalls from top position.
You can see the frustration on Ignotus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ignotus for as long as he can get away with.
Ignotus is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Ignotus tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Jones wants to control but Ignotus is keeping him busy.

Ignotus can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Ignotus, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Ignotus against the cage but Ignotus circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Ignotus content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Ignotus is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Ignotus stalling.
Jones goes for a takedown attempt but Ignotus pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ignotus sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones tries to clinch but Ignotus moves out of range.
Ignotus throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

and Ignotus counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Ignotus throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ignotus sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jones defending well though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ron Jones dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ignotus won't be happy with that.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ignotus is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ignotus not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ron Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ignotus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ignotus's head.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Ignotus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ignotus is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ignotus is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Severus Ignotus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ignotus trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Ron Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ignotus connects with a looping right hand.

Ron Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
