PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anus Saukko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jing Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anus Saukko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jing Woo!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woo circles away from the clinch attempt.

Woo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Saukko's guard.
Saukko wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Woo manages to pass to side control.
Woo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Saukko's head.

Woo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Woo swats away the attempt to clinch by Saukko.
Saukko scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Saukko throws a lazy right hand but Woo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Saukko looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Woo looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Woo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Woo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Saukko to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Saukko tries to clinch but Woo is having none of it.
Woo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Saukko as he jumps to the side.
Saukko doesn't manage to clinch there - Woo circles away.
Saukko throws a leg kick but Woo moved away.

Woo moves into range and clinches up with Saukko.
Woo tries for a takedown but Saukko manages to get underhooks.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Saukko.
Saukko throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Woo blocks it with crossed arms.
Saukko has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Saukko lands with a right to the head.
Still in the clinch, Saukko scores with a nice short uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woo just leaning against Saukko, taking a breather.

Saukko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Woo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Saukko did well to prevent Woo getting side control.
Woo passes to full mount!

Woo stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Woo showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Saukko.

Woo pushes Saukko up against the cage in a clinch.

Saukko's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Saukko closes the distance looking to clinch

and Woo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Saukko's guard now.

Woo drops back looking for a leg! Saukko is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Saukko manages to kick Woo off! Woo jumps back into Saukko's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jing Woo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Saukko clinches but Woo breaks the clinch

and Woo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Woo is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Saukko is trying to stand up here but Woo is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Woo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Saukko sees it coming and defends easily.
Woo is pressing down on Saukko's thigh, looking to free his foot. Saukko is holding on for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Woo is trying to work for a kimura but Saukko is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Saukko throws a nice head kick!
Saukko tries to clinch

and Woo counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Saukko scores with a shot to the side of Woo's head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Saukko.

Woo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Anus Saukko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Woo moves into the clinch successfully.

Woo jumps into guard, dragging Saukko to the mat.

Woo pushes Saukko off and scrambles back to his feet.
Saukko tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Woo.

Woo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Saukko is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Woo fails to land a wild elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jing Woo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Saukko keeping moving, preventing Woo from controlling successfully.
Woo throwing strikes from guard but Saukko blocks nicely.
Saukko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Saukko wants to get back to his feet but Woo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woo looking to pass the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Woo throws a big right hand that misses.
Saukko avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Saukko will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Saukko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Woo on the ground.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Saukko throws a series of punches but Woo avoids them all with ease.
A punch combination from Saukko misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Woo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Saukko was covering up waiting for the punch and Woo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Woo wants to control from the top but Saukko keeps moving.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Saukko clinches but Woo breaks the clinch

and Woo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Woo seems to be working for a kimura but Saukko defends the submission attempt.
Anus Saukko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jing Woo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Saukko is refusing to be controlled, as Woo sits in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jing Woo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Woo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
