Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Oscar Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie Riggs! The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Riggs closes the distance and clinches. Diaz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Riggs pulls him back up using the underhooks. Riggs tries to break the clinch but Diaz is controlling the position. With the fighters up against the cage, Diaz throws an elbow but misses. Riggs stalling in the clinch.
Riggs tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Diaz smiles and moves away.
Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Riggs pinned against the cage. Riggs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Diaz. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oscar Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Riggs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Diaz was covering up waiting for the punch and Riggs finishes the takedown easily into guard. Diaz lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Riggs! Riggs is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Riggs is looking to get to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Riggs holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Diaz tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Riggs is squirming around, avoiding Diaz's attempts to control the action. Riggs wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away. Diaz trying to control but Riggs is having none of it. Riggs tries to hold on but Diaz postures up. Riggs is looking to get to half guard. Riggs wants to control but Diaz is having none of it. Riggs is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Diaz is staying active.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Riggs tries to get back to half guard but can't. Riggs throwing hammer fists to the chest of Diaz. What's that going to do exactly? Diaz working for a guillotine from mount but Riggs is in no mood to give up. Riggs throws up some feeble strikes from the bottom. Diaz smiles and locks on to an arm, pivoting beautifully as he drops to the side for an armbar. Riggs tries momentarily to escape but he knows he's done and taps furiously to avoid injury. Confident submission skills displayed there by Diaz.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Oscar Diaz!
