Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeffrey Lui! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stan Jonathan! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jonathan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lui.
Nice sprawl there from Jonathan as Lui shoots in. Jonathan tries to clinch up but Lui circles away and keeps his distance. Jonathan walks into a jab. Jonathan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Jonathan doesn't manage to clinch there - Lui circles away.
Jonathan tries to close the distance and clinch but Lui swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Lui keeps the fight on the outside. A lazy left from Lui finds it's target. Lui swats away the attempt to clinch by Jonathan. The fight stays on the outside here - Jonathan looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Lui looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Lui tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Jonathan darts in trying to clinch and Lui counters with a stiff right hand. Lui loads up on a big right hand but Jonathan slips the punch. Jonathan wants to clinch but Lui slips to the side and Lui counters with a shoot takedown. Jonathan fights it but they end up in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lui pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jonathan is keeping the position for now. Lui missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Jonathan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Lui with a flurry of punches that miss. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lui's corner. There ya go! There ya go! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jonathan can do anything to dispel that myth. Lui stands up over Jonathan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Lui decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jonathan, up you get! Jonathan tries to clinch but Lui moves out of range. Jonathan closes the distance but Lui moves to the side and Lui counters with a straight right hand.
Jonathan is rocked! Jonathan wants to clinch up but Lui keeps it at a distance. Jonathan tries to clinch up but Lui circles away and keeps his distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lui scores with a shot to the body.
Jonathan leaves Lui with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jonathan closes the distance and clinches. Lui breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jonathan uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lui. Stan Jonathan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jonathan looks to clinch and Lui counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lui. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Lui in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Lui has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Lui with a flurry of punches that miss. Lui thows a big elbow that misses. Jonathan is trying to keep Lui in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Lui with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Lui trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Jonathan is trying to keep Lui in close.
Jonathan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Lui thows a big elbow that misses. Lui scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Jonathan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lui. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Jonathan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lui passes Jonathan's left leg - he's now in half guard. Lui thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jonathan's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jonathan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Lui misses with a head shot. Jonathan uses the momentum to regain guard. Lui trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Lui decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jonathan, up you get! Lui lands with a nice combination. Jonathan backs away looking to recover. Jonathan is still on wobbly legs! Can Lui finish him? Lui dives in and grabs Jonathan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jonathan pushes down on Lui's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffrey Lui. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lui is breathing heavily. Lui circles away from the clinch attempt and Lui connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lui connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Jonathan to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Lui!
