Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Bud Brockett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Bennie Bishop! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Bishop as Brockett shoots in. Bishop looks to land a left hand but Brockett moved out of range nicely. Bishop lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Brockett at a distance.
Bishop tries for a takedown but Brockett circles away easily and Brockett counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Bishop cracks Brockett with a right hand to the side of the head. Bishop lunges at Brockett with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Brockett's hand. Bishop feints and as Brockett raises his hands in defense, Bishop changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Bishop content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Brockett wants to stand but Bishop is controlling the position. Bishop wants to pass the guard but Brockett is keeping the position. Bishop is looking to advance position but Brockett has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Bishop wants to control but Brockett is having none of it. Brockett is landing with some decent strikes but Bishop is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Brockett lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Brockett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bishop is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Brockett throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Bishop is trying to escape the mount.
Bishop regains half guard. Bishop has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brockett is working away from the top position though. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bishop can do anything to dispel that myth. Brockett throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bishop keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Bishop wants to improve his position but Brockett is controlling well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Bishop regains full guard. Nicely done. Bishop is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Bishop is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Brockett throws a big right hand that misses.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Bishop lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Bishop fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Brockett manages to avoid it. Bishop lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Brockett at a distance.
Bishop looks to score with a jab to the body but Brockett is just out of range. Bennie Bishop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bishop throws a jab when Brockett was well out of range. Bishop misses with a hook. Bishop lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bishop shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Brockett counters with a lovely straight right hand! Nice body punch from Bishop. Brockett takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Bishop closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Brockett regains half guard, as Bishop was trying to land strikes. Bishop is stalling here. Brockett is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bishop seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Brockett has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Brockett throwing strikes but Bishop manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Brockett managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Bishop.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bishop throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Bishop working the ground and pound but Brockett is defending the strikes. Brockett is breathing heavily. Bishop connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Brockett some visible discomfort.
Bishop trying to control the position but Brockett is working away. Bishop in side control, throwing shots but Brockett defends. Bishop wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brockett keeps working. Bishop scores with punches from side control. Bishop in side control lands a decent elbow. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Brockett takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bennie Bishop dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Bishop throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brockett's waist but Brockett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bishop off to one side. Bishop shoots in for a double leg but Brockett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Brockett takes a shot right to the bread basket. Bishop takes a swing at Brockett's ribcage but misses. A shot to de liver by Bishop. Beautiful body shot. Bishop missing with a left hand there. Brockett was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Bishop connects with the punch. Bishop throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Bishop throws a right and a left that both miss. Bishop changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Bishop misses with a body shot
and Brockett counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bishop wants to sweep here but Brockett controlling him for the moment. Bishop is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brockett distracts Bishop with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Bishop is adopting a defensive guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Bishop bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brockett's guard. Bishop throwing strikes but missing. Bishop throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Bishop throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brockett works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Bishop stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brockett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Bishop chips away with some ground and pound. Bishop throwing strikes from guard but Brockett blocks nicely. Brockett utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Bishop scoring with some ground and pound. Brockett is trying to keep Bishop in close.
Bishop working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Brockett's head. Bishop trying to control but Brockett is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bishop distracts Brockett with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Brockett keeping moving, preventing Bishop from controlling successfully. Bishop in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Bishop stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brockett swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bishop trying to control the position from guard on top but Brockett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Bishop looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Bishop lands a couple of decent looking shots. Bishop working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Bishop throws a big right hand that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bennie Bishop showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Bishop is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brockett knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Brockett is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Bishop has just dragged him back down to the mat. Bishop misses with the ground and pound. Bishop misses with the ground and pound. Bishop throws a strike aimed at the side of Brockett's head but Brockett avoids it well. Bishop is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. And that's the end of the fight! Bennie Bishop comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Bishop has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
