PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Teppi Tarinashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sham Wowner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wowner has chosen Empire as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Teppi Tarinashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sham Wowner!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wowner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tarinashi is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wowner tries to free his leg and advance position but Tarinashi is retaining full guard.
Wowner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Wowner is looking to advance position but Tarinashi has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Wowner takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Wowner wants to sweep but Tarinashi has passed to side control!
You can see the frustration on Wowner's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wowner is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Wowner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wowner tries to move to mount but Tarinashi blocks the move with his legs.

Wowner tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wowner has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tarinashi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Wowner drops an elbow to the side of Tarinashi's head.

Tarinashi is controlling Wowner's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tarinashi wants to control but Wowner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Teppi Tarinashi will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Wowner throws a series of punches but Tarinashi moves out of range.
Wowner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Tarinashi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wowner is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tarinashi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wowner.

Wowner wants to control from the top but Tarinashi keeps moving.
Wowner wants to stand but Tarinashi has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Tarinashi misses with a takedown attempt - Wowner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Tarinashi tries to clinch there but Wowner circles away.
Wowner is looking to clinch.
Decent striking displayed by Wowner there.
Wowner cracks Tarinashi with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Wowner tries to keep at a distance but Tarinashi has taken the fight into the clinch.
Tarinashi prevents a takedown attempt there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sham Wowner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Wowner checks a leg kick.
Tarinashi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wowner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wowner lands with a straight right. Tarinashi didn't see that one coming.
Tarinashi tries to clinch up.
Tarinashi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A left and a right from Wowner both land. Nice combination.


Tarinashi is rocked!

Tarinashi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Oh Tarinashi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wowner throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Tarinashi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tarinashi seems to have got his legs back now.

Tarinashi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tarinashi with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Tarinashi prevents Wowner from getting back to his feet.
Wowner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tarinashi is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tarinashi won't allow Wowner to get back to his feet.

Tarinashi trying to control but Wowner is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tarinashi stalks Wowner and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Wowner's face. Wowner staggers backwards, shaken.
Wowner clinches but Tarinashi breaks the clinch

and Tarinashi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wowner won't be happy with that.
Wowner is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Tarinashi off and has taken his back!

Tarinashi won't enjoy being in this position. Wowner looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Tarinashi is tapping - it's over boys! Wowner picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sham Wowner!
