PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean Dignam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Ruus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Dignam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Martin Ruus!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dignam scores with a takedown into Ruus's guard.
Ruus can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dignam controls the pace.

Dignam stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Ruus walks into a stiff left hand from Dignam.
Ruus circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dignam lands with an uppercut that bounces Ruus off the cage and back into rage.

Dignam closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dignam swings around for an armbar but Ruus sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dignam's guard.
Ruus trying to control but Dignam is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dignam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruus manages to get himself to full guard.
Dignam slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Dignam wants to control from the top but Ruus keeps moving.
Ruus being controlled here, momentarily.

Ruus is working an open guard so Dignam takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Dignam looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Dignam controlling the action here.
Ruus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Dignam uses his free foot to push down on Ruus's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ruus.

Dignam get's back to his feet.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dignam. Ruus does a little dance to reset his feet.

Dignam looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Dignam with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Dignam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruus for as long as he can get away with.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sean Dignam just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Ruus doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dignam counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dignam passes into half guard.
Dignam is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Dignam is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dignam content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Dignam decides to stand and escape the position.
Ruus has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ruus there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dignam looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Ruus!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dignam throws a lazy right hand but Ruus sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A big right from Dignam misses.
Nice straight punches there by Dignam. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Dignam.
Dignam connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ruus doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Dignam counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dignam pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ruus is keeping the position for now.

Ruus throws his legs up looking for a submission but Dignam uses it to pass to side control.

Dignam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ruus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Dignam advances nicely into full mount.
Dignam looking to control and managing it successfully.

Dignam stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Ruus misses with a takedown

and Dignam counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ruus's guard now.
Ruus is breathing heavily.
Dignam not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Dignam passes into half guard.

Ruus looking for submissions off his back.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sean Dignam just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Dignam uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ruus has time to react.
Dignam stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Dignam wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Dignam looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Dignam rushes Ruus and presses him up against the cage.
Dignam is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ruus can do to turn this around?
Ruus tries to pull guard but Dignam holds him up against the cage and eventually Ruus drops back down to his feet.

Dignam turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dignam manages to end up in side control.

Dignam is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ruus knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Dignam lands an elbow.

Dignam is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ruus has escaped the position, nice work there.
Dignam just content to control the position.

Dignam decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ruus to his feet.

Dignam looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Dignam tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Dignam is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ruus has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Dignam has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ruus clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
