Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Xavier Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Erico Plaza! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Plaza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to avoid it but Plaza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sanchez to the ground. Sanchez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Plaza shoots in and drives through. Sanchez sprawls well. Sanchez throws a shot to the body.
Plaza shoots for a takedown but Sanchez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Xavier Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erico Plaza. Plaza takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Plaza takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Sanchez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Sanchez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Plaza struggling a bit here. Plaza is looking to reverse the position. Sanchez takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Plaza moves into full guard.

Nice straight punches there by Sanchez. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Sanchez. Plaza misses with a takedown attempt and Sanchez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Plaza tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanchez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Sanchez lands a high kick!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sanchez moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Sanchez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Xavier Sanchez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Sanchez goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Sanchez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanchez wants it to stay on the feet. Plaza takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Sanchez throws a leg kick which misses Plaza's front leg but catches the back leg as Plaza tries to avoid it. Plaza takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Plaza takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Plaza steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Sanchez. That one must have hurt. Sanchez dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Sanchez lands a slapping body shot.
Sanchez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Plaza! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sanchez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Sanchez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that's the end of the fight! Xavier Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round. Well Sanchez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
