PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carter has chosen DJ Khaled - All I do is Win as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Derrick Carter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derrick Carter!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carter manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
White would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Carter trying to keep a closed guard but White is proving a slippery customer.

Carter working for a triangle but White defends it easily.
White preventing the sweep.
Carter tries to strike from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
White is looking to stand up but Carter won't let him.
Carter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A combination from Carter does no damage.

White shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
White scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Carter keeping moving, preventing White from controlling successfully.
White is really struggling to control Carter but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White stands up and waves to Carter to follow him.

White scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
White tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
White in side control, throwing shots but Carter defends.
Carter manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

White wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carter keeps working.
White is breathing heavily.

White is trying to work for a kimura but Carter is defending well.
Carter tries to roll over but White keeps him under control.
Carter regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from White.
Carter wants to sweep but no luck.

Carter is looking for a triangle but White pushes his legs off easily.
Carter trying to keep a closed guard but White is proving a slippery customer.

White passes into half guard.
Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carter is looking to control White's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carter avoid being mounted?

White is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carter doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time White.
Carter tries to roll over but White keeps him under control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carter slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Carter is trying to keep White in close.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank White dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


White stuffs the takedown attempt from Carter. Carter gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice body kick from White.

White drives through with a takedown into guard.
White in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
White postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
White landing some decent shots from guard.

White drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carter looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carter looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carter!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carter fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Carter throws a strike aimed at the side of White's head but White avoids it well.
Carter in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
White wants to get back to his feet.

Carter decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but White shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Carter tries to clinch up.

White shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. White showed some decent athleticism there.
Carter tries to roll over but White keeps him under control.
White is thwarting Carter's attempts to control the position.
Carter is looking for a sweep. White is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

White is looking for a kimura here.
White wants to take a breather but Carter is having none of it.

White avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Carter fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt White.
Carter misses with a takedown attempt - White sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Frank White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Carter.
Carter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and White counters with a big head kick but Carter shrugs it off.
White thuds his shin into the meat of Carter's side.
Carter is trying hard to land a takedown here. White sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Carter has White up against the cage in a clinch.
Carter has White pressed against the cage, preventing White from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Carter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
White closes the distance and clinches up with Carter, looking for a takedown. White pushes Carter against the cage but Carter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carter tries to close the distance and clinch but White swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
White keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and White counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Carter!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


White clobbers Carter with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

White shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Carter is trying to defend but White finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Carter is trying to maintain the position but White is very close to passing his half guard.
White throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Carter tries to get to full guard but White has control of the leg.
White is thwarting Carter's attempts to control the position.
Frank White overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter wants to improve his position but White is controlling well.

Carter throws a leg kick but White sees it coming and checks it nicely.
White looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Carter shoots in and bounces White off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Carter controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Carter stands up from White's guard - Carter perhaps looking for a knockout.
Carter shoots in and drives through. White sprawls well.
Frank White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from White.
White misses with a takedown attempt

so Carter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank White. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Carter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
White is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and White decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Carter's guard.
Carter throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
White stopping the sweep attempt from Carter.
Carter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Derrick Carter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Frank White is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

White got a little sloppy there for a moment and Carter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, White has managed to get both his arms back between Carter's legs - danger averted.

Derrick Carter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think White has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
