Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Derek Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chubbs Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santiago changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Peterson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santiago thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Peterson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Peterson wants to control but Santiago postures up.

Santiago wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Peterson, who protects the arm well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Peterson's face as Santiago controls the position.
Santiago tries to move to mount but Peterson blocks the move with his legs.

Santiago is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Peterson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peterson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Santiago wants to control for a moment but Peterson uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Santiago is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Peterson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Santiago wants to free his trapped foot but Peterson is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Peterson is looking to control Santiago's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Peterson avoid being mounted?
Peterson is trying to stand up here but Santiago is controlling him well.
Peterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santiago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Peterson controlling the position for now.

Santiago is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Peterson sees it coming and defends easily.
Santiago is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Peterson makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Peterson scores with a hook.
Chubbs Peterson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Santiago shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Peterson defends it nicely.
Santiago dodges the punch combination from Peterson.
Santiago takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Peterson misses with a looping left.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Peterson lands a left and a right that send Santiago crashing to the mat, dazed. Peterson thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Santiago is rocked!


It looks like Derek Santiago has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Peterson lands an uppercut, right on the button! Santiago tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Chubbs Peterson!
