PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Phillippe Nover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phillippe Nover!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hunter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nover sprawls well initially but Hunter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nover keeping control of the position.
Nover blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hunter.
Hunter scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Nover wants to improve his position but Hunter is controlling well.
Nover trying to control but Hunter postures up.

Hunter stands up from half guard.
Nover fails to land the takedown.
Nover tries for a takedown but Hunter circles away easily

and Hunter holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nover breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nover shoots for a double leg takedown but Hunter sprawls well. He's pushed Nover's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phillippe Nover. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nover gets caught flat footed, as Hunter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hunter trying to control but Nover is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hunter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Nover is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Nover escapes and gets back to his feet.
Hunter throws a one two combo.
Hunter has his takedown stuffed
and Nover counters with a left and a right that stings Hunter.

Nover closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hunter did well to prevent Nover getting side control.
Nover seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hunter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hunter tries to get to full guard but Nover has control of the leg.
Hunter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nover. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nover is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.
Nover is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nover in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nover passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hunter!
Nover looking to finish Hunter with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hunter!
Nover trying to control but Hunter is having none of it.
Nover unloads with some shots from mount but Hunter bucks and avoids them well.
Nover cracks Hunter with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Nover looking to finish Hunter with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hunter!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nover raining down shots from the mount!
Nover trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Hunter tries to hold on but Nover pushes him away.
Nover lands a heavy elbow.
Hunter is looking to improve his position but Nover isn't that keen on the idea.
Nover has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nover is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hunter is surviving well by controlling Nover's body position as best he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nover takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hunter is squirming around, avoiding Nover's attempts to control the action.
Hunter is looking to get to half guard.
Nover breaks from Hunter's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Nover sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Nover seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hunter for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phillippe Nover dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Nover shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hunter is trying to defend but Nover finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Nover thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hunter's head.
Nover seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Nover wants to free his trapped foot but Hunter is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hunter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hunter is controlling Nover's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nover is trying to control. Hunter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nover is looking to advance position but Hunter won't allow it.
Nover works his way into side control.
Nover has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Nover lands a nice shot to the head.
Hunter is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Nover connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Nover looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nover fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Nover can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hunter is looking to escape.
Nover landing shots from mount.

Hunter has left one of his arms exposed and Nover doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Hunter screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Phillippe Nover!
