Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leon Leobotas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, All Bawls! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bawls tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Leobotas swivels and escapes. Leon Leobotas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Leobotas swats away the attempt to clinch by Bawls. Bawls closes this distance looking for a takedown but Leobotas circles away. Leobotas with a poor takedown and Bawls counters with a takedown into side control. Bawls is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Leobotas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Leobotas sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Bawls is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Leobotas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bawls. Leobotas lands with a few short shots to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Leobotas wants to get back to full guard. Ground and pound from Bawls. Bawls sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Leobotas defending well though. Bawls drops an elbow to the side of Leobotas's head. Leobotas looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Bawls not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Bawls thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Leobotas looking for submissions off his back. Leobotas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Leobotas on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bawls wants to free his trapped foot but Leobotas is holding on for dear life with his legs. Leobotas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Leobotas is breathing heavily. Bawls tries to pass the half guard into mount. Leobotas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bawls is looking for a kimura but Leobotas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bawls to get the leverage. Bawls throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bawls looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Leobotas is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bawls pulls his head out easily. Bawls postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Leobotas to stand up. Bawls fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bawls avoids a kick to the body.
Leobotas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bawls is fending him off so far but Leobotas persists. Nope, Bawls circles away and we're back to standing. Bawls tries to close the distance and clinch but Leobotas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Leobotas scoring well with a low kick there.
Leobotas thows a leg kick but Bawls checks it and Bawls counters by clinching up. Knees to the body from Bawls.
Leobotas takes an elbow to the temple.
It looks like Leon Leobotas has been cut. Bawls lands a good knee to the midsection. Leobotas won't want to take too many of those.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bawls lands an elbow inside that Leobotas shrugs off. Bawls is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Bawls crunches a lovely knee into Leobotas's ribcage. Bawls manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Bawls looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leobotas is one step ahead there. Bawls is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Leobotas has his hands clasped together but Bawls extends an breaks Leobotas's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Bawls.
