Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Fred Boyle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Liddle! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddle closes the distance and pushes Boyle back into the cage. Liddle misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Boyle blocks an uppercut.
Boyle jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Liddle walks away with a smile on his face. Boyle gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Boyle looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Liddle! Boyle wants to finish this one by submission but Liddle is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Boyle. Boyle tries to control but Liddle wriggling away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boyle scoring with strikes but Liddle is staying in there. Boyle controlling his opponent. Liddle is trying desperately to improve position. Boyle sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyle working for a submission but Liddle is keeping him at bay. Boyle wants to control but Liddle has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Liddle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Boyle is looking for a kimura but Liddle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Boyle to get the leverage. Boyle is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Liddle sees it coming and defends easily. Liddle keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Liddle is looking to improve his position.
Liddle is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Liddle is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boyle seems to be working for a kimura but Liddle defends the submission attempt. Liddle regains full guard. Nicely done. Boyle throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boyle is looking to work some ground and pound but Liddle has wrist control. Boyle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Liddle is keeping the position for now. Boyle postures up.
Boyle trying to control the position from guard on top but Liddle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boyle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Boyle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Liddle looks to land a left hand but Boyle moved out of range nicely. A punch combination from Liddle misses. Liddle waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Boyle. Liddle forces Boyle back against the cage and clinches. Liddle works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Liddle's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Liddle throws a body punch but Boyle moves out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Boyle swats away the attempt to clinch by Liddle. Boyle throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Liddle looks to score with a jab to the body but Boyle is just out of range. Boyle uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Liddle. Liddle fails with the takedown and Boyle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Liddle keeping moving, preventing Boyle from controlling successfully. Liddle looking for a sweep. Not yet Liddle, not yet. Boyle trying to control but Liddle is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fred Boyle dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Liddle closes the distance but Boyle moves to the side so Boyle counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Boyle wants to pass the guard but Liddle is keeping the position. Liddle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Liddle has Boyle pulled in close to control his posture. Liddle working a defensive guard here.
Boyle passes Liddle's left leg - he's now in half guard. Boyle with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Boyle seems to be working for a kimura but Liddle defends the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyle is looking to stall here but Liddle recovers full guard. Boyle trying to control the position from guard on top but Liddle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boyle looking to sit in guard and control but Liddle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Boyle looking for subs off his back but Liddle has passed one foot through into half guard.
Boyle looking for submissions off his back. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Liddle trying to control from half guard but Boyle is working away. Boyle looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Liddle thows a huge punch but Boyle dodges it nicely.
Boyle works his way to full guard. Good work. Boyle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Liddle wants to control from the top but Boyle keeps moving. Boyle working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Liddle.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Liddle throws a chopping leg kick but Boyle manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Boyle slips a jab and a cross from Liddle.
Liddle keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Liddle swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Liddle drops Boyle with a beautiful combination! Boyle stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Liddle is looking for the KO!
Boyle is rocked!
It looks like Fred Boyle has been cut. Fred Boyle is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Liddle misses the jab. Oh Boyle is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Liddle ducks under a wild hook from Boyle. Boyle seems to have got his legs back now. Liddle lands a head shot. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Boyle avoids a punch combination nicely.

Liddle lands a left and a right that send Boyle crashing to the mat, dazed. Liddle thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! Boyle moves out of range of the strikes. Liddle misses with a series of wild punches.
Liddle looks to land a right hand but Boyle moved out of range. Liddle swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Boyle. Boyle with a lazy takedown attempt and Liddle counters with a right hand to the body. Boyle tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Liddle throws a body punch but Boyle moves out of range. Boyle takes a shot right to the bread basket. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Liddle throws a leg kick and Boyle counters with a takedown into side control. Liddle manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Boyle is staying active underneath Liddle, who seems content to just control the action from this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Liddle showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Fred Boyle's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
The fight stays on the outside here - Liddle looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Boyle keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Liddle. Boyle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Boyle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Liddle kicks Boyle off and gets to his feet. Liddle throws a hook to the side of Boyle's head but Boyle sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Liddle throws a series of punches but Boyle moves out of range. Boyle slips a jab from Liddle. Liddle attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Boyle keeps the fight on the outside. Boyle lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Liddle throws a right hand that Boyle ducks under and follows up with a left that Boyle also avoids with ease. Liddle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Liddle wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boyle slips under a jab. Boyle shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Liddle's guard. Boyle thows a big elbow that misses. Boyle trying to control the position from guard on top but Liddle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Liddle wants to stand up but Boyle is controlling him. Boyle looking to sit in guard and control but Liddle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Liddle stands up over Boyle, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Liddle throwing strikes but missing. Boyle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A swing and a miss from Liddle. Boyle lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Liddle circles away quickly and effectively. Liddle throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Boyle sees it coming and avoids it easily. Nice defenses there by Liddle. Liddle pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Chris Liddle seems to be getting the better of the standup. Liddle moves in looking to clinch but Boyle pushes him off. Liddle is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Boyle shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Liddle waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Boyle. Liddle takes a swing at Boyle's ribcage but misses. Boyle avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Liddle clinches but Boyle breaks the clinch and Boyle counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Boyle stops Liddle from standing up. Boyle throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Boyle in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
