PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Tapper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Tapper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Doe!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doe takes the fight into the clinch.
Tapper goes for a takedown attempt but Doe pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tapper shoots in but Doe avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Tapper avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Doe scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Doe doesn't manage to clinch there - Tapper circles away.
Tapper fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Tapper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tapper fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Tapper scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Doe stuffs the takedown.
Tapper thows a leg kick but Doe checks it
and Tapper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Doe moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Doe wants to clinch.
Tapper pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Doe lets loose with a powerful body kick. Tapper will feel that in the morning.

Doe tries to clinch up.

Doe moves into range and clinches up with Tapper.
Doe lands a left hand.
Doe lands a nice knee to the body.
Tapper is breathing heavily.

Doe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Doe scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Tapper won't allow Doe to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doe wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doe perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Doe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tapper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Doe wants to stand up but Tapper has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Doe takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Doe working the head and body with strikes.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Doe in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
I looks like Doe might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Doe seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Doe in particular looking to stall.
Ground and pound from Doe.
Doe with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Doe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Despite being in the dominant position, John Doe just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doe is looking to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doe tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tapper paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Doe cracks the inside of Tapper's front leg.
Tapper takes a kick to the side of the head.
Doe moves in looking to clinch but Tapper pushes him off.

Tapper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Doe to the mat! Doe manages to get full guard.

Doe wants to get back to his feet but Tapper passes into half guard.
Doe wants to control but Tapper is keeping busy.
Tapper trying to control the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tapper seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Doe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doe is looking for a sweep. Tapper is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Doe is in trouble now - Tapper has advanced to mount!
Doe holds on for dear life, controlling Tapper's posture momentarily.
Doe wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Tapper is trying to stick to Doe's back but Doe is turning into Tapper. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Tapper's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Doe.

Doe stands and steps away. Tapper gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A thudding body kick lands there by Doe!
Doe tries to clinch but Tapper is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Doe misses with a two punch combination.

Doe drives through and clinches with Tapper against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tapper is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Doe unloads a knee to the mid-section. Tapper lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Doe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Doe tries to clinch there but Tapper circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe dominated that round.
That's time! Tapper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Doe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tapper swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tapper circles away from the clinch attempt.

Doe clinches up with Tapper and pushes him back against the cage.
Tapper looking for a takedown.
Tapper tries to pull guard but Doe holds him up against the cage and eventually Tapper drops back down to his feet.
Tapper managing to block the knees to the body from Doe.

Tapper tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Doe smiles and moves away.
Doe wants to clinch.
Doe throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Tapper has his takedown stuffed

and Doe counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Doe trying to control but Tapper is working from the bottom.
Doe content to stall in guard here.

Doe working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Doe trying to control the position from guard on top but Tapper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Doe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Doe works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Doe tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Tapper.
Doe throwing shots but Tapper is blocking nicely.
Tapper is refusing to be controlled, as Doe sits in half guard.
Tapper won't allow Doe to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tapper is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Doe is tapping! Great win for Tapper!
