And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Brooks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Mendes shoots in and bounces Brooks off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Brooks looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brooks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mendes pushes down on Brooks's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Brooks is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mendes pulls his head out easily.

Brooks wants to control but Mendes is keeping busy.

Brooks controls Mendes momentarily but Mendes frees himself.
Brooks managing to control the position.
Mendes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Mendes is breathing heavily.

Brooks is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mendes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendes shrugs it off.

Brooks jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mendes manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Mendes stops Brooks from passing to mount.

Brooks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendes has escaped the position, nice work there.

Brooks trying to control the position but Mendes is working away.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Brooks closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Brooks wants to free his trapped foot but Mendes is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brooks connects with a nice short shot to Mendes's temple.
Mendes wants to get back to his feet.
Brooks moves nicely into side control.

Brooks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendes has escaped the position, nice work there.
Brooks connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mendes some visible discomfort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brooks has hold of Mendes's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Mendes tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Brooks cranks the arm and Mendes screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Mendes, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Phil Brooks!
