Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danny Cardon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kendrick Perkins! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cardon takes the fight into the clinch. Cardon lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Perkins is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cardon pulls his head out easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cardon lands with a punch from half guard. Cardon performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Cardon uses his free foot to push down on Perkins's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Perkins. Cardon lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cardon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Cardon looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Cardon lands with some strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cardon controlling the pace for now. Cardon wants to control the pace but Perkins is squirming around nicely. Cardon scoring with strikes but Perkins is staying in there. Perkins takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Perkins can't escape the position.
Cardon controlling his opponent. Cardon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Perkins's face.
Cardon lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Perkins is desperately trying to improve his position but Cardon has a good base and remains in mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cardon cracks Perkins with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cardon punishing his opponent with strikes. BOOM! Cardon connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Perkins is rocked!
It looks like Kendrick Perkins has been cut. Cardon loads up with a big shot that hurts Perkins! He's pulled Cardon in close but Cardon has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Perkins survive? More strikes from Cardon and Perkins is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Danny Cardon!
