PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Daley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Daley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Pinto!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daley shoots in for a takedown but Pinto shows good takedown defense.
Pinto leaves Daley with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Daley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pinto pinned against the cage. Pinto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Daley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Daley closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Pinto wants to control but Daley is keeping busy.
Pinto tries to roll over but Daley keeps him under control.

Pinto is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Daley pulls his head out easily.
Daley thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pinto's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pinto is looking for a sweep. Daley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Daley.
Daley is breathing heavily.

Daley shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pinto but Pinto pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pinto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Pinto in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Daley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pinto misses with the ground and pound.

Pinto wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Daley, who protects the arm well.

Daley tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Pinto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pinto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Daley manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Daley keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Pinto not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Pinto is keen to just control but Daley is a slippery customer.

Daley is staying active underneath Pinto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Pinto looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Daley is refusing to be controlled, as Pinto sits in half guard.
Pinto not doing much here.

Daley looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Pinto is working for a kimura but Daley is defending it quite comfortably.
Pinto thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Pinto is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pinto tries to close the distance and clinch but Daley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Pinto dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Pinto shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Daley controls Pinto momentarily but Pinto frees himself.
Pinto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pinto drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pinto jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Daley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pinto gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pinto stays in close to Daley's body and controls the position.
Daley keeping moving, preventing Pinto from controlling successfully.
Pinto looking to pass the guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pinto trying to control the position from guard on top but Daley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Daley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pinto can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Daley has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Pinto doesn't defend quickly enough and Daley has managed to lock this one up! Can Pinto escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Daley on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Paul Daley!
