Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frank Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ernesto Po!
The judges for this bout are , and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez keeps the fight on the outside.
Po fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Valdez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Po shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Valdez counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Po has a hand on Valdez's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Valdez takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Valdez is standing up, even though he is in mount.
No luck for Valdez with that takedown attempt.
Po gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Valdez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Frank Valdez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ernesto Po.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Valdez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A head kick from Po lands but Valdez takes it in his stride.
A head kick misses from Valdez.
Po misses with a takedown attempt - Valdez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Valdez throws a head kick that misses.
Po closes the distance but Valdez moves to the side
and Valdez counters by moving into the clinch.
Po jumps guard but Valdez stands there with Po around his waist. Po gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Valdez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Valdez pulls Po into guard.
Po wants to pass the guard but Valdez is keeping the position.
Po really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Valdez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Po looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Valdez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Valdez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Po drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Valdez dives on top into guard.
Po wants to reverse the position here. Valdez has hold of a leg though and he's dropped back looking for a kneebar! The fighters roll across the mat but Po is forced to tap! Po looks devastated but at least his leg points in the right direction.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Frank Valdez!
