PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Robert Tabares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tabares comes into the arena with teach me how to jerk by new boyz blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Tabares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King George!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

George has closed the distance and engaged Tabares in a clinch.
George lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tabares backwards.

George's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

George gets a takedown into half guard.
Tabares makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tabares.
George wants to control from the top but Tabares keeps moving.
Tabares is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

George drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Tabares manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now George has Tabares in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
George is trying to control the position but Tabares postures up.
Tabares slips nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
George has hold of Tabares's hands but Tabares slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
George is trying to control but can't.
Tabares passes to full mount!
George tries to lock up and control but Tabares gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
George is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
George is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Tabares pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Tabares scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish George?
George tries to hold on but Tabares postures up.
Tabares could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tabares lands a big elbow.
George looks gassed!
George tries to reverse the position but Tabares maintains control.

Tabares lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Tabares unloading with bombs!

Tabares moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, George has worked his arm free - good work by George!
Tabares in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Tabares is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but George is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
George wants to control but Tabares postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
George regains half guard.
George is trying to control but can't.
George is trying to get back to full guard.
Tabares stops George from getting back to his feet.
George trying to control from the bottom.

Tabares decides to stand up.

George moves into range and clinches up with Tabares.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

George scores a nice knee to the body.
George is trying to stall.

Tabares jumps into guard, dragging George to the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tabares might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tabares can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as George controls the pace.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
George trying to control the position from guard on top but Tabares is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Despite being in the dominant position, King George just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

George has managed to clinch.

George manages to break the clinch.

George feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Tabares wants to stand but George is controlling the position.
Tabares throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
George wants to get up but he can't break Tabares's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Tabares uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Tabares decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

George manages to escape and get back to his feet!
George is looking to clinch.

Tabares shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tabares showed some decent athleticism there.
Robert Tabares overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tabares is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Tabares lands with some strikes.
George is working to get back to half guard.

Tabares with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
George avoids a series of strikes thrown by Tabares.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


George scores with a jab to the head.
Tabares with a lazy takedown attempt
and George counters with a big head kick but Tabares shrugs it off.
Tabares swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and George counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
George landing some nice looking knees to the body.
George lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Tabares tries to pull guard but George holds him up against the cage and eventually Tabares drops back down to his feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

George performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
George tries to pass the half guard into mount. Tabares knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tabares is trying to stand up here but George is controlling him well.

George escapes and gets back to his feet.
Tabares misses with a takedown

and George counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tabares's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Tabares. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tabares had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. George defends it easily.

Tabares is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
George wants to control from the top but Tabares keeps moving.

George postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Tabares is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of George, into his guard.
Tabares stands and throws George's legs to the side, diving into side control.
George tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tabares working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tabares prevents George from escaping the position.
George tries to improve position but can't.

Tabares decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Tabares closes the distance looking to clinch
and George counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tabares is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Tabares shoots in looking for a takedown. George tries to sprawl out of it but Tabares keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. George manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
King George has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Robert Tabares is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Tabares blocks a head kick by George.

And that's the end of the fight!
King George comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tabares has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
