And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dan Whitefield!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitefield shoots in for a double leg but Ives sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Whitefield tries for a takedown but Ives sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Whitefield shoots in but Ives avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Theodore Ives has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Whitefield.

Ives keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ives slips a nice elbow through Whitefield's hands, connecting with Whitefield's forehead.
Ives is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Whitefield is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ives not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ives frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ives wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Ives jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Whitefield is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Whitefield and Ives has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Ives is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Whitefield is trying to control Ives's posture but Ives avoids it.

Ives working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Ives goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Whitefield rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ives's guard! Nice work there by Whitefield!

Whitefield throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ives works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Whitefield doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ives counters with a shoot takedown. Whitefield fights it but they end up in guard.
Ives trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitefield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ives is looking to advance position but Whitefield has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Whitefield is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ives is surviving well by controlling Whitefield's body position as best he can.
Whitefield thowing shots but they're missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ives looks to land a strike but Whitefield avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ives not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ives shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Whitefield tries to lock up and control but Ives gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ives is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Whitefield can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ives gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Ives drops back, looking for a kneebar! Whitefield looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Whitefield looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Whitefield!

Well Ives has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
