Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex McGuinness (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sidney Wonder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuinness kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Pearl Jam - Even Flow. Sidney Wonder is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuinness shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

McGuinness stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Wonder shoots and misses

and McGuinness moves into the clinch.
McGuinness with a knee to the head.

McGuinness's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McGuinness tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wonder swats him away and circles back towards the center.
McGuinness fails with the takedown

and Wonder counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Wonder.

McGuinness working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wonder doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wonder manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wonder postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McGuinness is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wonder, into his guard.
Wonder is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and McGuinness dives into side control.

McGuinness wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wonder keeps working.
Wonder wants to get back to his feet but McGuinness drags him back down.
McGuinness trying to control the action but Wonder is working from the bottom.
McGuinness creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGuinness working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Wonder is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on McGuinness's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Wonder is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but McGuinness pulls his head out easily.
Wonder wants to improve his position but McGuinness is controlling well.
McGuinness is looking to take a break and control but Wonder is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGuinness stands up from half guard.
McGuinness has his takedown stuffed

and Wonder counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

McGuinness escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wonder gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wonder is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McGuinness is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McGuinness has escaped and now he's on top!
McGuinness sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Wonder's guard.

McGuinness thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Wonder to regain full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McGuinness accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McGuinness is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wonder is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wonder has escaped and now he's on top!
Wonder trying to control the position from guard on top but McGuinness is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McGuinness is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wonder defends well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Wonder drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McGuinness dives on top into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex McGuinness will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


McGuinness throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

McGuinness gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Wonder regains guard.
McGuinness throwing strikes from guard but Wonder blocks nicely.
McGuinness trying to control but Wonder is working from the bottom.
Alex McGuinness overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wonder working a defensive guard but McGuinness passes into half guard.

Wonder is looking to improve his position but McGuinness isn't that keen on the idea.
McGuinness throwing strikes here but Wonder is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
McGuinness throws some wild stikes that Wonder manages to avoid easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wonder can't escape the position.
McGuinness tries to control but Wonder wriggling away.

McGuinness stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Alex McGuinness is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

McGuinness gets a takedown into half guard.

McGuinness wants to work for an arm triangle but Wonder is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Wonder avoiding damage under a succession of punches from McGuinness.
Wonder moves into full guard.

Wonder is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wonder is breathing heavily.
McGuinness loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McGuinness content to stall in guard here.
Wonder keeping moving, preventing McGuinness from controlling successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Wonder gets caught flat footed, as McGuinness shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wonder keeping moving, preventing McGuinness from controlling successfully.

Wonder manages to escape and get back to his feet.

McGuinness closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Wonder to the mat! Wonder manages to get full guard.
McGuinness wants to control from the top but Wonder keeps moving.
McGuinness has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Alex McGuinness just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

McGuinness drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

McGuinness decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Wonder moves out of range of the body kick from McGuinness.

and Wonder counters with a shoot takedown. McGuinness fights it but they end up in guard.
Wonder pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McGuinness is keeping the position for now.
Sidney Wonder has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wonder tries to free his leg and advance position but McGuinness is retaining full guard.
McGuinness looking to hit a scissor sweep but Wonder is one step ahead there.

Wonder drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Wonder seems to have locked his on tight now - McGuinness screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Wonder, as he picks up the win!
