PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Andre Moraes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Avenlino Srobud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avenlino Srobud told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andre Moraes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Avenlino Srobud!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moraes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Moraes fails with the takedown.
Srobud connects with a looping right hand.

Moraes shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Srobud manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Moraes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Moraes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Srobud looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Srobud looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Srobud!

Srobud wants to control but Moraes is keeping him busy.

Moraes looking to break Srobud's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Srobud remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Moraes will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Moraes swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Srobud is now in Moraes's guard. A big mistake from Moraes there, giving up the dominant position!

Despite being in the dominant position, Avenlino Srobud just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Andre Moraes will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Avenlino Srobud seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Moraes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Srobud's waist but Srobud gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Moraes off to one side.
Moraes shoots in for a takedown but Srobud shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Moraes has closed the distance and engaged Srobud in a clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Srobud seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Moraes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Moraes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Moraes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
