Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Rhodes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, James Rhodes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thiago Alves ! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rhodes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rhodes misses the shot to the body. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rhodes. Rhodes throws a shot to the body.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rhodes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rhodes moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Alves misses with a leg kick and Rhodes counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Alves is lucky that one didn't land flush. A low kick from Rhodes is predictable there and Alves counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rhodes won't be happy with that. Alves taking a breather here. Rhodes prevents Alves from moving into mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves is looking to take a break and control but Rhodes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Alves working the body and head with strikes. Alves throwing shots but missing, from side control. Rhodes is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Alves has just dragged him back down to the mat. Alves just content to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves tries to advance to mount but Rhodes denies him. Alves in side control, throwing shots but Rhodes defends. Alves with the ground and pound but Rhodes regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rhodes keeps working.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rhodes kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Rhodes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground. Alves stops Rhodes from getting back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rhodes throws a hook but Alves blocks it. Rhodes stuffs the takedown. A punch combination from Rhodes misses. Rhodes looks to score with a jab to the body but Alves is just out of range. Rhodes on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Rhodes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rhodes. Rhodes throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
so Alves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Alves wants to control from the top but Rhodes keeps moving. Alves 's corner is telling him to maintain position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Thiago Alves dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Rhodes displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Alves tries for a takedown but Rhodes circles away easily and Rhodes counters with a two punch combo. James Rhodes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rhodes misses with the combination.
Rhodes buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Nice uppercut there from Alves . Alves lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Rhodes shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense. Rhodes swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Alves counters with a nice double leg into guard. Rhodes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alves is controlling him. Rhodes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alves controls the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rhodes trying to keep a closed guard but Alves is proving a slippery customer.
Rhodes keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully. Alves thows a big elbow that misses. Alves trying to control but Rhodes is working from the bottom. Alves is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Alves scores with a jab to the body. Alves misses with a jab, cross combination.
A nice leg kick lands there from Rhodes. Alves shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rhodes as he avoids it easily. Alves misses the jab. A slapping leg kick lands for Rhodes.
Rhodes uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Alves . Alves is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rhodes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A solid leg kick lands there for Rhodes.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alves . James Rhodes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thiago Alves . Alves is breathing heavily. Rhodes fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Alves . Rhodes closes the distance and lands a one-two. Rhodes stalks Alves and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Alves 's face. Alves staggers backwards, shaken. Rhodes throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rhodes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alves circles away quickly and effectively. A punch lands to the side of Rhodes 's head but he takes it in his stride. Alves lands a head kick. Rhodes smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Rhodes misses with a two punch combination.
Rhodes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Alves drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rhodes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Alves throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Alves stops Rhodes from standing up. Alves postures up in Rhodes's guard and throws a big left but Rhodes blocks it. Alves trying to control but Rhodes is working from the bottom. Alves has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Alves stops Rhodes from standing up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rhodes keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that James Rhodes will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

A clash of legs there as Rhodes blocks the low kick. Rhodes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Alves is trying to control but can't.
Rhodes working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Alves 's thigh. Alves counters though and makes it back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves trying to strike off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alves is on top in guard.
Alves stopping the sweep attempt from Rhodes. Alves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rhodes is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Rhodes pushes Alves off and gets back to his feet.
Alves misses with an uppercut. Rhodes saw that one coming. Alves misses with a takedown letting Rhodes counter with a right hand. Alves stuffs the takedown. The fighters circling - Alves throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Alves tries to score with a low kick but Rhodes moves his leg out of the way. Rhodes tries for a takedown but Alves circles away easily letting Alves counter with a right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rhodes throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Alves pushing out the jab but it's not landing. James Rhodes is winning the standup battle so far. Rhodes lands with a kick to the temple. Alves shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Rhodes shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Rhodes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alves scores a takedown into full mount! Rhodes wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Alves .
Thiago Alves has got the better of the ground game so far. Alves lands with some strikes. Alves throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves landing strikes from the mount and Rhodes is in trouble! Alves with the ground and pound from mount. Alves misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Alves wants to control the pace but Rhodes is squirming around nicely. Alves controlling the position easily from mount. Alves sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to James Rhodes. I think Rhodes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
