Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle Mustain! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Howelet! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mustain gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Mustain goes for a takedown in the clinch but Howelet prevents it.
A shot in the inside from Howelet. Mustain manages to break the clinch.
Howelet slips under a jab from Mustain. Mustain shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Mustain working for a submission but Howelet is keeping him at bay. Mustain unloads with some shots from mount but Howelet bucks and avoids them well.
Howelet looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Mustain misses with an elbow to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Howelet trying to control but not successfully. Mustain misses with a punch to the head. Mustain is working the ground and pound. Can Howelet escape? Howelet trying to control but not successfully. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Howelet covers up after that shot from Mustain.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mustain scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Howelet really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mustain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Howelet trying to control the action but Mustain just sinks the hooks in. Howelet wants to escape the position.
Howelet looks gassed! Mustain has good solid back control here. Mustain is hanging on to Howelet's back as he tries to escape.
Mustain is punishing Howelet with strikes - can he finish him?! Mustain cracks Howelet with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Howelet from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Mustain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Howelet wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mustain looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Howelet taps!
