PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Selly Sel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garet Jax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Selly Sel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Garet Jax!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sel lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Sel moves into range and connects with a jab.
Jax throws a leg kick but Sel sees it coming and moves out of range.
Jax shoots in for a takedown but Sel shows good takedown defense.
Jax misses with a takedown attempt - Sel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jax avoids the head kick by Sel.
Jax circles away from the clinch attempt.
A combination from Sel does no damage.
Sel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Jax looks for a takedown but Sel sprawls well.
Selly Sel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Garet Jax.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A punch combination from Sel misses.
Sel connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Jax shoots in looking for a takedown. Sel tries to sprawl out of it but Jax keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sel looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sel in particular looking to stall.
Sel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jax's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jax is trying to stand.
Sel is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sel wants to free his trapped foot but Jax is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jax wants to improve his position but Sel is controlling well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jax is looking to control Sel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jax avoid being mounted?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jax looks like he's trying to stand up.

Sel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jax keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Selly Sel dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Sel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jax.
Sel throws a nice looking combination but Jax bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Sel drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sel tries to free his leg and advance position but Jax is retaining full guard.
Sel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jax controls Sel momentarily but Sel frees himself.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jax keeping moving, preventing Sel from controlling successfully.

Jax not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sel looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jax is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sel is controlling him.
Sel pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jax is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sel stays in close to Jax's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jax keeping moving, preventing Sel from controlling successfully.

Jax is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Jax is trying to control the position but Sel postures up.
Sel won't allow Jax to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jax sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sel throws a sloppy head kick and Jax moves out of range easily.
A right-left combo lands from Sel.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jax closes the distance and clinches up with Sel, looking for a takedown. Jax pushes Sel against the cage but Sel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sel wants to clinch.
Jax takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Selly Sel dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Sel slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Sel tries to clinch but Jax is having none of it.
Jax misses with a takedown attempt
and Sel counters with a one-two to the body.
Sel doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jax counters with a single leg into guard. Sel didn't expect that.
Sel is trying to keep Jax in close.
Jax stops Sel from standing up.
Jax postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sel has his foot on Jax's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jax works his way back into a safe position though.
Jax wants to control from the top but Sel keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jax wants to pass the guard but Sel is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jax looks for a takedown but Sel sprawls well.
Sel slaps away a takedown attempt from Jax, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Selly Sel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Garet Jax.
Jax fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Selly Sel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Horrible takedown by Sel or perhaps it was just good defense by Jax which made him look bad.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jax tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jax somewhat.

Jax clinches.
Sel gets underhooks to prevent Jax's takedown attempt.
Sel holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Jax has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jax changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sel fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sel scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Jax doesn't seem bothered though.
Nice cross by Sel.
Sel throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Jax counters by clinching up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sel jumps into guard, dragging Jax to the mat.
Jax preventing the sweep.
Sel keeping moving, preventing Jax from controlling successfully.
Sel manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jax manages to get himself to full guard.
Garet Jax has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sel is stalling in the full guard.
Sel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jax swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Selly Sel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sel looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Sel pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jax is keeping the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Selly Sel showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
