Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwayne Hicks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ed Valquez! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.

It looks like Ed Valquez has been cut. Valquez moves away from the strike by Hicks. Hicks tries to clinch up. Hicks fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Valquez checks it well. Hicks throws a right and a left that Valquez avoids nicely. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hicks. Valquez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Valquez thumps Hicks with a low kick. Hicks misses with a hook. Hicks throws a hook but Valquez blocks it. Valquez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nice defenses there by Valquez.
Hicks drops Valquez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Valquez looks back up at him and smiles so Hicks waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Valquez is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! A big left from Hicks misses. Valquez is still on wobbly legs! Can Hicks finish him? Valquez lands with a straight right. Hicks didn't see that one coming. Hicks moves in looking to clinch but Valquez pushes him off. Valquez seems to have recovered his senses.

That sent Valquez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Valquez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hicks. Hicks fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Valquez manages to avoid it. Valquez moves out of range of the strikes. Hicks misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Valquez.
Hicks looks for the body kick but Valquez saw that one coming. A low kick from Hicks is predictable there and Valquez counters with a low kick, right behind Hicks 's knee. Valquez slips a straight right by Hicks. Hicks tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Valquez is able to avoid easily. Hicks throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Valquez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Valquez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hicks manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Valquez has Hicks in his guard. Valquez wants to stand up but Hicks is controlling him.

Valquez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hicks is one step ahead there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Hicks is looking to score with low kicks. Hicks throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Valquez to counter with a crisp jab. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Valquez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hicks.
Hicks tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Hicks takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Valquez counters with a flying knee. Nice. Hicks tries to clinch but Valquez moves out of range. Hicks throws a leg kick and Valquez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. A punch combination from Hicks misses. Hicks darts in trying to clinch and Valquez counters with a series of strikes. Hicks will be more careful next time no doubt. Hicks throws a leg kick and Valquez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hicks misses the jab. Hicks throws a series of punches but Valquez avoids them all with ease. Hicks throws a head kick but Valquez moves out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Valquez.
Hicks is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Valquez.

Valquez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Hicks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Valquez is looking for a kimura but Hicks is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Valquez to get the leverage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Valquez not landing any meaningful shots this time. Valquez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Valquez thows a huge punch but Hicks dodges it nicely.
Valquez throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Hicks tries to get to full guard but Valquez has control of the leg. Hicks avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Valquez. Valquez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hicks throws a low kick but Valquez avoids it. Hicks tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Valquez was well out of range. Poor timing from Hicks. Valquez slips under a jab from Hicks. Hicks misses with a jab to the body
and Valquez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hicks won't be happy with that. Valquez fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hicks manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Valquez manages to get to full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Valquez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Valquez tries to reverse the position but Hicks maintains control. Valquez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Hicks controlling the pace for now. Valquez tries to hold on but Hicks postures up. Hicks sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Valquez is in all sorts of trouble here.

Valquez shoots in but Hicks avoids the takedown attempt easily. Valquez shoots in for a double leg but Hicks sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Hicks throws a right hand that Valquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Valquez also avoids with ease. Valquez takes a jab right on the kisser.
Dwayne Hicks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hicks fails to land with a series of punches.
Hicks walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Valquez connects with the punch. Valquez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hicks.

Valquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Valquez is working for takedown but Hicks is calmly controlling the position for now. Hicks is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Hicks is trying to force a seperation but Valquez has the dominant position. That has opened up Ed Valquez's cut even more. Hicks misses with a shot to the body and Valquez counters with a lovely shot to the body. Hicks ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Valquez moves away. Dwayne Hicks is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hicks tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Dwayne Hicks is winning the standup battle so far.

Hicks misses the jab. Hicks misses with a straight left. Hicks walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Valquez checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Hicks takes a swing at Valquez's ribcage but misses.
Valquez shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hicks manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Valquez wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving. Hicks avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The fight stays on the outside here - Hicks looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hicks throws a big shot that misses. Hicks waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Valquez. Hicks misses with an uppercut. Valquez slips under a jab. Nice defenses there by Valquez. A slow jab from Hicks misses its intended target. Valquez avoids the head kick by Hicks.

Valquez throws a leg kick which misses Hicks's front leg but catches the back leg as Hicks tries to avoid it.

Hicks is trying to break the clinch but Valquez has him pressed against the cage. Valquez wants a takedown.
Valquez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hicks is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Valquez takes a shot to the head. Valquez wants a takedown but no success here.
Dwayne Hicks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ed Valquez. Valquez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. A right hook to the body lands for Hicks.

Hicks seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Valquez is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment. Hicks lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Hicks tries to work over Valquez's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Valquez is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted. Hicks lands a body punch.

Hicks tries to land a front kick but Valquez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Valquez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Hicks thows a body shot but no joy. Ed Valquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hicks swings and misses with a shot to the body and Valquez counters with a nice uppercut.

That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Valquez's guard. Valquez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Valquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hicks! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hicks trying to control the position but Valquez is working away.
