PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Snips Barbour (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Snips Barbour!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Smith!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barbour's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Nice uppercut there from Barbour.

Barbour shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Barbour looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Smith is trying to maintain the position but Barbour is very close to passing his half guard.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Barbour lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith tries to get to full guard but Barbour has control of the leg.
Barbour looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Smith wants to control but Barbour is keeping busy.
Barbour working the head and body with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barbour landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Smith trying to hold on to Barbour's head to control him but Barbour postures up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Barbour connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.
Smith is staying active underneath Barbour, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Barbour lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Barbour has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barbour looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Barbour slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead.
Barbour trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it.
Barbour looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Barbour is breathing heavily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Barbour is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smith pushes Barbour off looking to stand but Barbour dives back in and keeps control.
Barbour passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Smith!

Barbour looking to control but Smith is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Smith is in all sorts of trouble here.
Smith wants to hold on but Barbour pushes him away.
Smith might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Barbour kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

BOOM! Barbour connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Smith is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Smith tries to lock up and control but Barbour gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Barbour throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Smith manages to pass to side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The crowd cheers as Barbour lands an impressive looking overhand right. Smith doesn't seem phased though.

Barbour drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Barbour from controlling successfully.
Barbour works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard.
Barbour wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.

Smith is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Barbour stands up over Smith, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Smith has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Barbour off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Barbour closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barbour lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Smith down.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Barbour is looking to take a break and control but Smith is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That was a close second round but I would say that Snips Barbour will probably get the nod.

Smith throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Barbour fails with the takedown
and Smith makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Barbour really felt that one!
Smith lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Barbour wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side
and Smith counters with a left and a right that stings Barbour.
Smith takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Barbour is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Barbour is in trouble now - Smith has advanced to mount!

Barbour suckers Smith into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Barbour is now in Smith's guard!

Barbour advances to half guard.
Smith wants to improve his position but Barbour is controlling well.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Barbour winds up and cracks Smith with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Barbour!

Smith looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Smith is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

Smith working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Barbour tries to reverse the position but Smith maintains control.
Smith trying to control but Barbour is having none of it.
Smith lands a big shot there that rocks Barbour but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Jim Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Smith prevents Barbour from getting the reversal.
Smith pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Smith content just to control the position here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Barbour can't escape the position.
Barbour holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Smith tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Barbour tries to reverse the position but Smith maintains control.

Smith is working for a guillotine from mount but Barbour frees his head quite easily.
Barbour regains half guard.
Barbour slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Barbour pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.
Smith preventing the sweep.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jim Smith.
I think Barbour has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
