PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between George Cohey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig York (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Cohey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig York!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cohey tries to close the distance and clinch up but York swats him away and circles back towards the center.
York leaves Cohey with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cohey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

York closes the distance and clinches.
York is trying to drag Cohey to the mat but Cohey just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

York has Cohey pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. York pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cohey tumbling to the mat - York dives into Cohey's guard.
York postures up in Cohey's guard and throws a big left but Cohey blocks it.
York trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cohey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
York stopping the sweep attempt from Cohey.
Cohey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Cohey wants to sweep here but York controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cohey has his foot on York's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. York works his way back into a safe position though.
York throwing strikes from guard but Cohey blocks nicely.

Cohey looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cohey lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for York!
Cohey unloads with some shots from mount but York bucks and avoids them well.

York is squirming around, avoiding Cohey's attempts to control the action.
Cohey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

York defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cohey.

Cohey tries to control but York wriggling away.
Cohey wants to stand but York is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Poor strikes thrown by Cohey there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Cohey with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
York is trying to stand.

York stuffs the takedown.
Cohey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around York's waist but York gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cohey off to one side.

Cohey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cohey manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Cohey wants to control the pace but York is squirming around nicely.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if York can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cohey working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Cohey trying to control but York is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cohey sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
York is squirming around, avoiding Cohey's attempts to control the action.

Cohey lands with some vicious ground and pound - can York hang on?

Cohey is going oldschool here, as he tries to force York to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so York shrugs it off.
Cohey can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as York is looking to escape.
York is breathing heavily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cohey scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Cohey throws some wild stikes that York manages to avoid easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cohey is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. York can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cohey looking to control but York is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Cohey looking for a triangle here. York is fighting it but it looks tight! Cohey pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, York is tapping out - this one is all over!
