Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Almeida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aiden Marx! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marx is looking to clinch. Almeida drives through with a takedown into guard. Almeida is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Almeida trying to control but Marx is working from the bottom. Almeida is standing up over Marx. Marx looks to escape but Almeida dives into side control.
Almeida is trying to get an arm triangle but Marx is defending well. Almeida controlling the position from side mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marx tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Marx is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Almeida is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Almeida controls the action. Almeida tries to keep control of the position but Marx is staying busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marx wants to get back to his feet. Almeida trying to control. Almeida is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Marx is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Almeida off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Thiago Almeida just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Marx takes the fight into the clinch. Marx's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Marx connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Marx fails in his attempt to clinch. Marx feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Almeida sprawling to the canvas! Almeida rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Marx finish him?!
Marx is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Almeida hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Aiden Marx!
