PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Ballinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ballinger comes into the arena with A Scottish Soldier by Andy Stewart blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Ballinger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Smith!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballinger pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Smith lands a head shot.
Smith thows a body shot but no joy.
Smith connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Smith lands a right hook to the body.
Ballinger takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A jab from Smith does it's job there.
Smith throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Ballinger stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Ballinger moves out of range of the strikes.
Ballinger moves out of range of the strikes.
Smith lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ballinger's sensitive parts.

Ballinger avoids the body shot from Smith.
Smith scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ballinger doesn't seem bothered though.
Smith changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith cracks Ballinger with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Smith scores with a decent looking hook.

A punch lands to the side of Ballinger 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Ballinger takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Smith swings for the body but Ballinger moves out of range.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ballinger moves away.
Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ballinger.
A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Ballinger does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ballinger misses with a straight right.
Smith connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ballinger. Ballinger circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Smith digs a good hook to Ballinger's body.
Smith connects with a solid leg kick.
Ballinger walks into a stiff left hand from Smith.
Smith scores with a shot to the body.
Smith fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ballinger on the side of the head.
A slow jab from Ballinger misses its intended target.
Smith misses with a body shot.
Smith missing with a left hand there. Ballinger was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ballinger takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith misses with a straight right.
Smith waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ballinger.
Ballinger walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Ballinger walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Ballinger takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Ballinger throws the left hand but Smith avoids the punch easily.
Smith wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Ballinger is breathing heavily.
Smith lands a nice looking body shot.
Smith is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Smith lands a jab to the nose.
Smith throws a hook to the side of Ballinger's head but Ballinger sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Ballinger takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Smith connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ballinger. Ballinger circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith scores with a jab to the jaw.
Good shot there by Smith.
Ballinger shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.


Ballinger is rocked!
Smith looks to land a right hand but Ballinger moved out of range.
Oh Ballinger is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ballinger on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Ballinger seems to have got his legs back now.
Smith keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ballinger takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Smith cracks a nice hook into Ballinger's ribs.
Smith scores with the left hand. Ballinger knows he should have avoided that one.
Smith circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Ballinger to the canvas! Ballinger doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Smith keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Smith!
