Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bolo Yangov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stephen Davis! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yangov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Davis is fending him off so far but Yangov persists. Nope, Davis circles away and we're back to standing. Davis misses with a takedown and Yangov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Davis's guard now. Yangov trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom. Davis wants to stand and escape but Yangov is having none of it. Yangov pushing down on Davis's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Yangov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Yangov is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Davis! Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yangov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Davis is looking to get to half guard. Yangov working for a guillotine from mount but Davis is in no mood to give up. Yangov controlling his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yangov working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Davis trying desperately to get to his feet.
Yangov goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Davis is on top in guard.
Yangov is breathing heavily. Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yangov swivels though and keeps the full guard. Davis wants to control from the top but Yangov keeps moving. Davis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Yangov's guard. Davis pushing down on Yangov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Yangov is trying to maintain the position but Davis is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Yangov trying to control from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Yangov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Davis is staying active underneath Yangov, who seems content to just control the action from this position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth. Davis gets back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davis tries to land a sweep but no joy. Davis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Davis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Yangov to the mat! Yangov manages to get full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis wants to get up but he can't break Yangov's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Davis postures up in Yangov's guard and throws a big left but Yangov blocks it. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yangov is on top in guard.
Yangov passes into half guard. Yangov has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Davis defend it? Yangov steps over the head and cranks it - Davis is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Yangov!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bolo Yangov!
