PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kaden Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Hippolati (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hippolati comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Monster Mash kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kaden Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Hippolati!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hippolati checks the leg kick.

Hippolati closes the distance and clinches.
Drake tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hippolati smiles and moves away.
Hippolati throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Drake will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hippolati scores with a nice strike.
Drake shoots in looking for a takedown. Hippolati tries to sprawl out of it but Drake keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hippolati manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaden Drake. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Drake tries to keep at a distance but Hippolati has taken the fight into the clinch.
Still in the clinch, Hippolati scores with a nice short uppercut.
Drake jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hippolati walks away with a smile on his face. Drake gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Drake shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hippolati sprawls well. Hippolati wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Drake gets slowly back to his feet.
Hippolati throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hippolati stuffs the takedown attempt from Drake. Drake gets slowly back to his feet.
Drake dives in and grabs Hippolati's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hippolati pushes down on Drake's head and hops out.
Hippolati misses with a double jab.
Drake throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hippolati's waist but Hippolati gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Drake off to one side.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hippolati takes the fight into the clinch.

Hippolati breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Drake shoots in for a takedown but Hippolati shows good takedown defense.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Drake is defended easily by Hippolati.

Hippolati drops Drake with a beautiful combination! Drake stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hippolati is looking for the KO!


Drake is rocked!
Drake is breathing heavily.
Hippolati throws a nice looking combination but Drake bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Oh Drake is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Drake shoots in looking for a takedown. Hippolati tries to sprawl out of it but Drake keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hippolati manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Drake seems to have got his legs back now.

Drake shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hippolati's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Drake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hippolati swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hippolati is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Drake defends well.

Hippolati is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Drake trying to control the position from guard on top but Hippolati is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Drake shoots for a double leg takedown but Hippolati sprawls well. He's pushed Drake's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hippolati throws a right hand that Drake ducks under and follows up with a left that Drake also avoids with ease.

Hippolati darts in and clinches Drake up against the cage.
Hippolati lands a hook that snaps the head of Drake backwards.
Drake tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hippolati smiles and moves away.
Horrible takedown by Drake or perhaps it was just good defense by Hippolati which made him look bad.
Kaden Drake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hippolati throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Drake fails to land the takedown.
Drake slips a jab and a cross from Hippolati.
Hippolati lands with a kick to the ribs.
Left hook, right uppercut from Hippolati.
Drake fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Hippolati rushes Drake and presses him up against the cage.
Hippolati scores with a nice hook to the head.
Drake tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Drake fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Hippolati breaks from the clinch.

Hippolati feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hippolati wants to get up but he can't break Drake's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hippolati working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hippolati really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Drake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hippolati wanted to stand there but Drake had control of the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Drake fails with the takedown
and Hippolati counters with a straight right hand.

Drake feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hippolati can do anything to dispel that myth.

Drake goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hippolati is on top in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hippolati rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Drake moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hippolati is leaning against Drake and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Hippolati is thwarting Drake's attempts to control the position.

Drake is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hippolati pulls his head out easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Hippolati moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse Hippolati showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Hippolati looking to improve position, pressing down on Drake's thigh with his hand. Drake seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Hippolati paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Hippolati's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Drake picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
