PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jarrod Hines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Huggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Huggins is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by My Generation. The key to victory for Jarrod Hines has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jarrod Hines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Freddy Huggins!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hines throws a head kick that misses.
Hines throws a head kick that misses.
Hines tries to clinch up but Huggins circles away and keeps his distance.
Hines lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Huggins circles away quickly and effectively.
Huggins should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hines throws the kick towards the body but Huggins avoids it.

Huggins throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hines was covering up waiting for the punch and Huggins finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hines wants to stand and escape but Huggins is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hines is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hines has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Huggins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Huggins is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hines looking for a sweep. Not yet Hines, not yet.
Huggins stops Hines from standing up.
Hines can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Huggins controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hines keeping full guard, as Huggins tries to pass.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Huggins not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hines trying to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy Huggins dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Huggins tries to clinch up but Hines circles away and keeps his distance.

Hines lands a left and a right that send Huggins crashing to the mat, dazed. Hines thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Freddy Huggins has been cut.
Hines throws a sloppy head kick and Huggins moves out of range easily.
Both fighters circling a little - Hines finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Nice body kick there by Hines.
Jarrod Hines is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hines thuds his right hand into Huggins's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Hines throws a head kick but Huggins moves out of range.
Hines wants to clinch but Huggins slips to the side

and Huggins counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Hines manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Huggins manages to get himself to full guard.

Hines has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Huggins is breathing heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hines stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Huggins circles away from the clinch attempt.
Huggins ducks right into an uppercut from Hines.


That has opened up Freddy Huggins's cut even more.
Huggins avoids the head kick by Hines.
Hines tries to close the distance and clinch up but Huggins swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hines.
Hines's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hines duly obliges.
Hines thumps Huggins with a low kick.

Hines takes the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hines stops a takedown attempt from Huggins.
Huggins has Hines pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hines manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hines lands a knee to the head.
Hines tries to land a knee to the head but Huggins blocks with his arms.

Hines successfully pulls guard.
Hines controls Huggins momentarily but Huggins frees himself.
Hines is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Huggins is controlling him.

Hines pushes Huggins off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hines tries to clinch up.
Hines misses with a head kick.
Huggins blocks a head kick by Hines.
Hines scores with a kick to the midsection.

Huggins looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Hines!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hines tries to hold on but Huggins postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jarrod Hines dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Freddy Huggins's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Huggins moves out of range as Hines throws a body kick.
Hines pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hines's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hines duly obliges.
Hines lands a head kick. Huggins smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Hines thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Huggins if he has to take too many more of those.
Hines throws a head kick but Huggins moves out of range.
Hines is looking to clinch but Huggins is avoiding it.
Hines scores with a kick to the body.
Jarrod Hines seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hines lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hines.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hines tries to clinch but Huggins is having none of it.
Hines misses with a head kick.
A head kick misses from Hines.

Huggins blocks a head kick by Hines.

Huggins is looking to clinch.
Hines misses with a head kick.

Huggins clinches up against the cage.
A knee to the head by Hines.
Huggins has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hines avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Hines crunches a lovely knee into Huggins's ribcage.

Huggins has clasped his hands together around Hines's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Hines's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hines is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Huggins is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hines will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Huggins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hines keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Huggins might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hines kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hines manages to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Huggins seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hines does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hines desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Hines tries to kick Huggins off but Huggins keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jarrod Hines showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hines has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
