PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hayden Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rhiver Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sherk comes to the cage accompanied by Unstoppable. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hayden Sherk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rhiver Perez!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sherk scores with a takedown into Perez's guard.
Sherk is pushing down on Perez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Perez is fighting to maintain full guard but Sherk has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sherk looks to land a strike but Perez avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Sherk trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Sherk loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sherk drops back, looking for a kneebar! Perez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Perez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Perez!

Perez is trying to get an arm triangle but Sherk is defending well.

Perez decides to stand back up.

Sherk bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sherk has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Perez works to full guard.
Sherk wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.
Perez is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sherk is controlling him.
Perez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Sherk is breathing heavily.
Perez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sherk manages to get himself to full guard.

Perez is looking to stand up but Sherk won't let him.

Perez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Perez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Perez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sherk, up you get!
Sherk shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Perez pinned against the cage. Perez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Perez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sherk tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Perez missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Sherk makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Sherk shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Perez napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Sherk goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Perez has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sherk but great work by Perez.
Perez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Sherk!

Perez jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sherk is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sherk and Perez has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Perez is trying to ground and pound but Sherk uses the momentary lack of control by Perez to regain half guard.

Sherk moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Perez throws a big right hand that misses.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Perez throws and elbow that misses. Sherk uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Perez's guard. Nice move by Sherk!

That was a close round but I would say that Hayden Sherk will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Sherk counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sherk.

Sherk wants to stand but Perez is controlling the position.

Perez is in close to Sherk's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Sherk has his feet on Perez's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Sherk throws a right and a left that both miss.
Perez shoots for a double leg takedown but Sherk sprawls well. He's pushed Perez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Sherk forces Perez back against the cage and clinches.

Sherk pulls guard effortlessly.
Perez throws a big right hand that misses.
Perez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Perez gets to his feet. Sherk looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sherk closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Sherk lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Perez down.

Sherk swings around for an armbar but Perez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sherk's guard.

Perez postures up in Sherk's guard and throws a big left but Sherk blocks it.

Perez throws a strike but Sherk rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Perez trying to keep a closed guard but Sherk is proving a slippery customer.
Perez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sherk is one step ahead there.
Sherk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Perez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perez is on top in guard.

Perez gets to his feet - Sherk follows without any prompting.
Rhiver Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Perez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sherk sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Perez somewhat.
Hayden Sherk is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Perez has managed to clinch.
Sherk drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sherk tries to pull guard but Perez won't allow it.

Perez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Perez lands a right hand.
Perez looking for a takedown.
Hayden Sherk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rhiver Perez.

Sherk trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Sherk is looking to stand up but Perez isn't so interested in that idea.
Perez connects with a couple of short punches.
Hayden Sherk is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sherk manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Perez manages to get himself to full guard.
Sherk postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rhiver Perez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sherk wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.
Sherk seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sherk working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Perez's head.
Perez keeping moving, preventing Sherk from controlling successfully.
Perez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hayden Sherk showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sherk, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
