Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Hais (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hais comes into the arena with Time to Say Goodbye by Bocelli & Brightman blaring out of the sound system. Shepherd has chosen Head Like A Hole - Nine Inch Nails as his entrance music. Frankie Shepherd acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Vladimir Hais!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Shepherd!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shepherd connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Shepherd jabs at Hais's body.
Hais fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Shepherd throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Shepherd sizes up Hais with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Hais lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shepherd circles away quickly and effectively.
Hais walks into a stiff left hand from Shepherd.
Shepherd thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hais if he has to take too many more of those.
Shepherd uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hais has time to react.
Some bone on bone action there as Hais checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Shepherd is looking to slow Hais down with leg kicks.
Hais really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Hais counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Shepherd's guard now.

Hais drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shepherd looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shepherd looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shepherd!
Hais tries to buck Shepherd off but Shepherd is having none of it.

Shepherd lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Hais shoots in for a double leg but Shepherd sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Hais wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shepherd, who protects the arm well.

Hais tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Hais is looking to take a break and control but Shepherd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shepherd is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hais has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hais is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shepherd is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hais advances nicely into full mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hais looking to ground and pound but Shepherd is blocking nicely.
Hais wants to take Shepherd's back but he can't do it this time.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Shepherd stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shepherd wants it to stay on the feet.
Shepherd looks to score with a jab to the body but Hais is just out of range.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shepherd can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hais is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Shepherd has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Shepherd!
Shepherd must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hais has hold of Shepherd's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shepherd manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Shepherd is desperately trying to improve his position but Hais has a good base and remains in mount.

Hais is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shepherd to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shepherd shrugs it off.

Hais goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Shepherd turns into him and now he's in Hais's guard.

A close third round but Frankie Shepherd just about did enough to take it.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Frankie Shepherd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Hais counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hais.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Shepherd takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

A frustrated look appears on Shepherd's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Hais wants a takedown.
Hais blocks an uppercut.
Hais blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Hais has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shepherd is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Hais has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shepherd can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
