Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeff Lowich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Cangaceiro! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lowich throws a right and a left that Cangaceiro avoids nicely. Cangaceiro uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lowich. Cangaceiro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lowich, pushing him back against the cage. Cangaceiro drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cangaceiro prevents Lowich from breaking the clinch. Lowich stops a takedown attempt from Cangaceiro.
Cangaceiro pulls Lowich into guard.
Lowich trying to control but Cangaceiro is working from the bottom. Cangaceiro looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Cangaceiro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lowich can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cangaceiro looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cangaceiro looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lowich is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cangaceiro pulls Lowich in close to prevent any damage. Cangaceiro has an active guard here but Lowich has managed to pass into half guard.
Cangaceiro wants to control but Lowich is keeping busy.
Cangaceiro is looking to improve his position.
Lowich gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Lowich cracks Cangaceiro with an open hand slap. Lowich catches Cangaceiro napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Cangaceiro to the canvas!
Cangaceiro is rocked! Cangaceiro is trying to keep Lowich in close.
Cangaceiro is still in real trouble! Can Lowich finish him?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cangaceiro looks gassed! Cangaceiro seems to have recovered his senses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lowich wants to stand but Cangaceiro has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Cangaceiro bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lowich's guard. Cangaceiro with a nice head shot there. Cangaceiro trying to control but Lowich is working from the bottom. Cangaceiro is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Cangaceiro wants to pass the guard but Lowich is keeping the position. Lowich seems keen to control Cangaceiro's posture.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lowich keeping moving, preventing Cangaceiro from controlling successfully. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Lowich controlling Cangaceiro's posture. Cangaceiro wants to control from the top but Lowich keeps moving. Cangaceiro must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. The fighters circle momentarily. Lowich darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Cangaceiro shoots in for a double leg but Lowich sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Jeff Lowich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Cangaceiro. Cangaceiro tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lowich swats him away and circles back towards the center. Cangaceiro dodges the punch combination from Lowich.
Lowich looks to land a combination but Cangaceiro avoids it well. Cangaceiro closes the distance and clinches. A knee to the head by Cangaceiro.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lowich wants to break free but Cangaceiro has control.
Cangaceiro tries for a takedown. No joy.
Cangaceiro turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Lowich is looking for a sweep. Lowich wants to control but Cangaceiro postures up. Cangaceiro stands up and we're back to a striking position. Lowich misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cangaceiro checks a leg kick. No joy there for Lowich, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jeff Lowich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cangaceiro tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lowich swivels and escapes. Cangaceiro showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lowich.
Lowich rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cangaceiro moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Jeff Lowich is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Lowich misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cangaceiro darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Cangaceiro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lowich does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Lowich will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Cangaceiro fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Jeff Lowich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Cangaceiro. Cangaceiro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lowich as he jumps to the side. No luck for Cangaceiro with that takedown attempt. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cangaceiro. Cangaceiro keeps control of Lowich as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Cangaceiro tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cangaceiro has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lowich uses from the top position. Cangaceiro throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lowich stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cangaceiro swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lowich gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Lowich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cangaceiro shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lowich pinned against the cage. Lowich gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Cangaceiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Lowich throws a wild body kick that Cangaceiro sees coming a mile off. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cangaceiro. Cangaceiro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lowich as he avoids it easily. Cangaceiro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lowich is fending him off so far but Cangaceiro persists. Nope, Lowich circles away and we're back to standing. Cangaceiro has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cangaceiro is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cangaceiro is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Cangaceiro jumps into guard, dragging Lowich to the mat.
Cangaceiro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lowich doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lowich manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cangaceiro manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Lowich looks to land a combination but Cangaceiro avoids it well. Lowich pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Lowich takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Lowich throws a right hand that Cangaceiro ducks under and follows up with a left that Cangaceiro also avoids with ease. Cangaceiro shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Lowich lands a hook that stumbles Cangaceiro back into the cage. Lowich follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Cangaceiro to the canvas! Lowich pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Cangaceiro has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!
