0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Troy Derren! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robert shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Robert was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Derren looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Derren is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Robert has taken his back.
Derren is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Robert seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Derren for as long as he can get away with. Derren is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Robert is riding his opponent, not letting Derren buck him off. Robert looking to break Derren's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Derren remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Robert will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Derren trying to get back to his feet but Robert is in full control for now. Good control from Robert. Robert has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Derren looking for submissions off his back. Robert is looking for a kimura but Derren is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Robert to get the leverage. Derren actively working from the bottom here. Robert content to control rather than advance. Robert winds up and cracks Derren with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Robert darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Robert seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Derren does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Derren looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Derren misses with a takedown and Robert holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derren sprawls well initially but Robert persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Derren is looking to regain half guard here but Robert keeps moving and retains side control. Robert decides to stand back up. Carl Robert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Robert throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Derren. Robert shoots and misses and Derren counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Robert!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Robert tries to lock up and control but Derren gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Robert is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Derren is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Robert is looking to get to half guard.
