PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bob Sagat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ive Nackershort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nackershort comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Rocky Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Sagat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Ive Nackershort!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Nackershort.
Nackershort fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nackershort connects with a high kick.
Nackershort tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nackershort fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nackershort looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sagat is fending him off so far but Nackershort persists. Nope, Sagat circles away and we're back to standing.
Bob Sagat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ive Nackershort.
Nackershort misses with a wild combination.
Nackershort shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sagat defends it nicely.
Sagat looks to throw the jab but Nackershort is out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Sagat misses the target.
Ive Nackershort seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nackershort takes one to the chin there.

Nackershort drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nackershort postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sagat is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nackershort, into his guard.
Sagat content to stall in guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nackershort controls Sagat momentarily but Sagat frees himself.

Nackershort looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sagat passes into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nackershort is looking to regain half guard here but Sagat keeps moving and retains side control.
Nackershort tries to control but Sagat manages to take his back.
Nackershort trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Sagat is riding his opponent, not letting Nackershort buck him off.

Nackershort rolls, trying to escape but Sagat keeps control of the position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nackershort tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Nackershort is desperately trying to improve his position but Sagat has a good base and remains in mount.
Nackershort is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Sagat avoids the attempt from Nackershort to control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nackershort is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Nackershort uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sagat.
Sagat thows a body shot but no joy.

Nackershort darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sagat is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sagat avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Nackershort.
Sagat won't allow Nackershort to pass to mount.

Sagat regains full guard. Nicely done.
Nackershort pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sagat is keeping the position for now.
Sagat pulls Nackershort in close to prevent any damage.
Sagat manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nackershort manages to get himself to full guard.

Nackershort escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sagat gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Nackershort wants to control the position but Sagat says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Sagat controlling the pace.
Nackershort is looking for a sweep. Sagat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sagat looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nackershort is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sagat's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sagat's back!

Nackershort is looking for the choke from the back position but Sagat is controlling his hands well.
Nackershort thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Will Nackershort go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Nackershort thows a strike but Sagat uses the opportunity to reverse the position! Great move by Sagat as he ends up in Nackershort 's guard!

Nackershort looking for subs off his back but Sagat has passed one foot through into half guard.
Nackershort tries to get to full guard but Sagat has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bob Sagat will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Sagat scores with a nice right hand.

Nice combo by Sagat! Oh, that's hurt him - Nackershort falls to the canvas and Sagat follows him into side control.


It looks like Ive Nackershort has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nackershort is trying to improve his position.
Sagat working away.
Nackershort takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sagat has control of an arm but Nackershort manages to advance to Sagat's back!

Sagat really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Nackershort's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

Nackershort is controlling the position but Sagat somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sagat scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Nackershort doesn't seem bothered though.
Sagat connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nackershort. Nackershort circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Ive Nackershort has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Nackershort shoots for a takedown but Sagat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nackershort shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sagat as he avoids it easily.
Sagat ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Sagat fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nackershort manages to avoid it.
Sagat looks to throw the jab but Nackershort is out of range.
Nackershort needs to keep his hands up - Sagat had a free shot at his head there.
The fighters circle momentarily. Sagat darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Sagat thuds a left hand into Nackershort's body.
Sagat connects with a body shot.
Sagat rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Nackershort moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sagat swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Nackershort closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Horrible takedown by Nackershort or perhaps it was just good defense by Sagat which made him look bad.

Sagat throws a shot from downtown. Nackershort moves away and avoids it.
Sagat digs a good hook to Nackershort's body.

Nackershort walks into a straight right hand from Sagat.
Sagat throws a big shot that misses.
Nackershort takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Sagat lands with a nice body punch.
Nice straight punches there by Sagat. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Sagat.
Sagat scores with a shot to the body.
Sagat misses the shot to the body.
Nackershort avoids the body shot from Sagat.
A slow jab from Sagat misses its intended target.
Nackershort shoots in for a double leg but Sagat sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sagat lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Jab, jab by Sagat - just one landing.
Nackershort showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sagat.
Sagat misses the shot to the body.
A jab lands there for Sagat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Nackershort decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sagat's guard.
Sagat is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Nackershort wants to control from the top but Sagat keeps moving.
Nackershort in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sagat is on top in guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sagat looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Sagat showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sagat has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
